1950s housewife daily schedule     (TraditionalWives)

A copy and paste of a list I found on the interwebs:

1. Throw back the covers and let your bed air out.
2. Open up the blinds and windows.
3. After breakfast clean up the kitchen and eating area.
4. Gather a basket for tidying. As you tidy the home, pick up items that don’t belong in that room and add them to your basket. When you enter a new room place the items from the basket that belong in that room where they go.
5. Straighten up the living areas, pick up clutter, lightly dust, straighten pillows, and water plants.
6. Make the beds.
7. Tidy the bedroom, including a light dusting.
8. Hang up any clothes that may be about or ensure dirty ones are in the hamper.
9. Do a light tidying of the bathroom including removing and replacing used towels, refilling toilet paper and soap (as needed), and cleaning the sink area including soap dishes.
10. Wipe down kitchen work surfaces and inside the fridge and discard any old food.
11. Dispose of garbage from around the home.
12. Rinse dishcloths and hang them to dry.
13. Sweep or mop the kitchen floor.
14. Handle weekly chores that need to be done that day. (See examples below)
15. Set the table for dinner.
16. Arrange the living room for evening enjoyment with the family.
17. Do a quick sweep of the floors and ensure the entranceways are clear.
18. Clean up the eating areas after dinner and ensure all dishes are washed.
19. Set the table for breakfast.

Once a Week Chores
• Use metal polish on bathroom fixtures.
• Clean and disinfect all kitchen appliances.
• Scald and disinfect bread boxes, garbage pails, and bins.
• Replace flowers with fresh bouquets.
• Laundry (including bedding).
• Vacuuming and mopping.

Pretty standard stuff honestly.

The number of tradwives aligned with the far right may be small, but their popularity on social media platforms suggests their cohort is growing.

For women who have observed the unhappy zero-sum battle of the sexes, many feel that the modern world, for all its promises, has failed them.

Looking up recipes shortcut     (TraditionalWives)

Is there an add-on available or an app anywhere that allows you to jump to the recipe instead of having to scroll down on a persons blog for what seems like an eternity before finally getting to it?

I've seen the feature on some websites before just wished it was available on all of them.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or tips regarding this small annoyance.

It's the little things     (TraditionalWives)

Every once in a while I'll want to bring my husband some extra cheer so I'll do little things like sew together a tiny stuffed animal and put it in front of his water glass to discover when he gets home. Or, I'll surprise him by patching the thinning elbow of his nightshirt or hang a charming framed print of mallards to brighten a room. Stuff like that.

He works hard and deals with a lot of nonsense to keep us in shampoo as they say and it makes me happy to take care of the nest so he doesn't have to lift a finger when he gets home and to show how much I appreciate him with tiny actions like I wrote above.

Take care of your sweeties and let them know how much you treasure them!

Tips regarding 'loud' appliances and foot comfort     (TraditionalWives)
submitted by NeedleStack to TraditionalWives 1.1 years ago (+14/-1)
56 comments last comment...
On the rare occasions I run the (very loud) dishwasher, I pair the task with vacuuming at the same time so that I'm doing two loud tasks at once to get them over with. I put in foam ear plugs while I do this to minimize the annoyance.

I don't recommend blaring music in headphones to combat the noise because you'll definitely create long-term ear damage.

There have been times when I've started the dishwasher as I'm heading out the door to run errands but this is risky because you ought to be home in case there's a leak or problem where you'll need to stop the machine before things get worse. I know this isn't a common issue but you never know!

About foot comfort: I have a pair of sneakers I wear indoors only for housework. It's made a world of difference because my feet are way less aggravated by the end of my chores than if I were barefoot or in socks. Sneakers are so cheap in thrift stores now, you could pick up a comfy pair just for the home. Remember to treat yourself to cushy socks as well (and perhaps gel inserts) to help you last longer on your feet.

Chime in if you have similar tips!

How to make homemade liquid laundry detergent on a budget with Zote soap.     (yewtu.be)

Affordable method for making your own laundry detergent. The comment about making a powdered version is excellent but the lady who wrote it doesn't know about paragraphs so read at your own discretion. :)

The same commenter does say if you go with the liquid version the woman in the video demonstrates, use less water for a cleaner and better-smelling wash.

You don't have to buy expensive sheet sets like Porthault of course but getting cotton or linen ones and a proper duvet or wool blankets and/or cotton patchwork quilts will do wonders.

Tips not mentioned in this video:

Vacuum around your bed more often as well for better sleep.

A trick I learned to freshen your mattress a couple of times a year is sprinkling about a cup of baking soda on a stripped mattress (on laundry day of course) and let it sit for as long as your laundry is going. The goal is for the powder to soak up/neutralize any odors on the fabric. When it's time to make the bed, vacuum up the soda and also vacuum the sides of the mattress (paying attention to all the seams where dust settles in). Vacuuming your mattress every now and then will help in the meantime.

Open your windows for a few minutes each morning (even in winter) to allow fresh air into your home too.

Classic feminine styling observations     (TraditionalWives)

Hi Needlestack and other TradWives

I've been tweaking my personal style over the past few months and thought I would share my results.

Before I started this, I wore a lot of pants, gym wear and tomboy clothes - leggings, bike shorts, band/concert tshirts, etc. I started noticing my peers at the playground , also wearing the same, compared to older women you might see at the grocery store, who are much more put together. Even my mom still dresses well to do chores, with blouses and slacks. I started to become self-conscious because bike shorts don't convey dignity and when you compare modern clothes with what our grandmothers wore, we may as well be wearing underwear. Modern fashion, just like everything else it seems, is a race to the bottom. We know this and we can do better, so I set out to update my style.

I started incorporating more skirts into my repertoire, still wearing tshirts but now with a high-waisted A-line instead of pants. I try not to wear pants unless I have a flowy blouse. The litmus test on whether my outfit is appropriate is if my grandmother saw me in it, would she approve?

It hasn't been long but I'm really enjoying the challenge. I love it when my husband comes home and says I look great. And I should look great, it's the least I can do when he has to look at sweaty beer gut guys at work. When I run errands, people are friendlier and nicer to me. I stand out. Skirts are cool and more forgiving than shorts. It sets a good example to my children, who I am also trying to dress more respectfully.

I'm still stumped on what to wear for getting dirty. An apron works in the kitchen but what about when you're cleaning or going to the gym? I don't want to sweat in my nice clothes or scrub the tub in a skirt.

Has anyone else started dressing more classically feminine? How is it working out?
