Great minds think alike :P A few years ago I bought eighteen thick black sock pairs and threw out all my ratty socks. And as for storing them, just lie them on top of each other with no folding, which saves the most amount of space.

An extra bonus is that when one sock needs to be tossed, the other does not necessarily need to.

Years (decades?) ago, I bought like a hundred of the great Costco socks all at once so I didn't need to mix and match.

They're finally starting to wear through, and it's been so long that they don't make them anymore. It's a fucking tragedy that I'm going to have different types of socks again.

What I found recently was that the use-by date for the elastic in my underwear had obviously arrived but what was uncanny is that all the underwear from a certain date threw in the towel at once (started falling down).

Neither do I, although after just checking, my retired socks weigh an average of 31.1 grams, while my current socks weigh around 45.2 grams. Am seeing significant variation in each sock type, although it's more likely a result of age and use rather than right or left.

Good start, but you haven't achieved true mastery until you wear the appropriate shoe on each foot for your activities. Going for a walk around the block? Wear a shoe with a better grip on the 'outside foot', and a shoe that's more 'slippy' on the inside foot.

Laundry is my nemesis. I gave up on matching socks after baby #2. They all just sit in a basket now. Going forward, I'm going to only buy plain white or black socks, it's too much trouble to match 3 different kid's sizes that all have unique designs in them.

But very cool tip, this will come in handy when packing for a trip or organizing ski/winter stuff
