Mappers favor the Ukrainian side - Red areas are Russian controlled. Eastern Chasov Yar is to the east of the Canal. Bakhmut is to the east of this position.
Ukrainians still control the treeline on that hill above Bohdanivka, and to the left towards Chasov Yar. Russians apparently haven't occupied the village yet. It's probably smashed flat with no cover from hillside fire.
The logic behind all those advancements and retreats follows the same logic: One at a time, so that there is always some theater going on while not doing anything too much and chaotically. They are trying to milk this distraction psyop to the fullest.
We've come across situations when the enemy runs toward us in attempt to surrender, only to be shot in the back by his own forces.
We also come across situations in which after a storm we find soldiers with wounds to their arms, legs, torso, and with a clean controlled shot to the head. Implying that instead of rescuing their wounded they execute them.
Even in situations when we try to rescue a wounded Ukrainian they attack with drones. For them this is just another opportunity to inflict casualties.
