why does the drone have a cable?

[ - ] PostWallHelena 11 points 2 daysJun 11, 2025 08:17:03 ago (+11/-0)

I think they can jam the wireless drones. So they literally have to control them with the longest cable ever.

As soon as they let local ai make decisions, that is over. No more jamming anything.

You're right. It's not just jamming from the enemy, but also normal signal interference from weather, terrain, and distance. These wires give perfect picture/control over the device. This is an evolution of the TOW missile, which also has wires attached which allow it to be guided manually after firing, check this out:

range. (and wifi jamming like helena said)

and fuck anyone who leaves miles of fiber optic cable laying about.

Let's bitch about environmental impact then leave thousands of miles of glass cable everywhere.

There's some effort to reel those back in for reuse, but you wouldn't want to get killed for your environmentally friendliness.

I just hate how stupid this all is

Instead of radio that can be jammed or blocked, fiber optic cables ensure no interference with the video feed or control of the drone. Spools on the drones are typically 10 to 15 kilometers, but can go up to 50 kilometers for drones with more lift capacity.

When you watch drone video, the degradation of the video feed as they close in on the target means it's radio controlled and being jammed. Fiber optic has clear images until impact.

Holy shit that's a damn long distance.

Who is making this fiber?

[ - ] Sector2 1 point 1 dayJun 11, 2025 14:20:46 ago (+1/-0)

Probably the Chinese, since they're the low cost leader in practically all mfg.

[ - ] dassar 1 point 1 dayJun 11, 2025 16:23:32 ago (+1/-0)

Initially they were chinese, until Russia got their own optic fiber facilities up and running.

The sanctions have caused trade and banking issues between China and Russia, and they're also causing Russia to become self-sufficient in as many ways as possible. Haven't read about Russia making their own, but it makes sense.

[ - ] dassar 0 points 1 dayJun 11, 2025 22:37:12 ago (+0/-0)

Yea for sure. I cant recall where/ when i read it, but was fairly recently (last month or so) - but iirc they have at least three (according to what I read) different factories in the far east of Russia producing russian-made fiber optic cable.

They're like TOW missiles, check them out. Missiles that are fired with a wire connecting to the launcher that allows the operator to MANUALLY GUIDE THE MISSLE. They can make it turn wide corners, go up over a fence and then come back down and hit a target, all kinds of shit.

Same deal with these wired drones. They completely eliminate the potential of signal problems- not even the enemy's attempts to jam it, but just normal signal interference that can affect the operation of the drone. That fiber optic wire gives absolutely perfect control over it, and if you strike quickly with them, the wire doesn't hinder the effectiveness much.

LOL! Good work. Fucking ukies. Slava Russia.

[ - ] PostWallHelena 4 points 2 daysJun 11, 2025 08:15:55 ago (+4/-0)

This is some sinister shit.

[ - ] boekanier 2 points 1 dayJun 11, 2025 10:40:03 ago (+2/-0)

Russians are top :-)

Why the explosion?

[ - ] Kozel [op] 0 points 1 dayJun 11, 2025 20:13:47 ago (+0/-0)

because the impact detonated explosive made impact with the ground why is there a question about it

[ - ] NoRefunds 0 points 1 dayJun 11, 2025 16:33:45 ago (+0/-0)

I highly doubt it's a fiber optic cable, they're not very flexible and are very delicate

None of this is new.
