Ethical eating. No animal matter. Garden-sourced produce (no transport (pollution etc)) and...it's delicious!

https://i.ibb.co/nCgtG1j/sensor-light.jpg

Due to a recent intruder I've got the front-door sensor light up and running. It's been little used in 15 years and one of the two screw-bulbs corroded in the fitting (salt air?). The glass bulb came out but left the metal thread behind. I managed to tear out the metal remains but the thread on the ceramic housing seems to have worn so that it's difficult to get a tight fit for the globe. I'm thinking of wrapping electrical tape (but any tape would probably do) around the screw of the light globe to give it more grip. Do you see any problems with that? Got a better idea?

You might think I'm engaging in attention-seeking behaviour and nothing could be closer to the truth. No! I am trying to persuade you to get vaccinated. There is a risk but the Covid poses a greater one and God knows what variant is around the corner.

I got my 5th jab approx. an hour ago and the only possible symptom was a fleeting headache. My rule-of-thumb with these vaccines is that if I survive the night...I'll survive so...watch this space! I know you're rooting for me. I appreciate that.

Amelia Earhart's Twin Engine Lockheed 10 Electra on the Reef at Nikumaroro Island     (i.ibb.co)

July 2, 1937 Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan departed Lae, New Guinea, in her Lockheed Electra 10E Special NR16020 bound for Howland Island in mid Pacific thence Hawaii .. lost and low on fuel they landed on the reef at Nikumaroro Island in the Republic of Kiribati 4°39'30.37" S Latitude, 174°32'40.23" W Longitude.

The aircraft was visible on the 2018 Google Earth listing for Nikumaroro Island above which must have been taken at low tide, the latest GE image seems to have been taken at high tide since the plane can no longer be seen.

The plane is located a few hundred meters north of the wreck of SS Norwich City which ran aground in bad weather on the northern part of the island, while on a voyage from Melbourne Australia to Hawaii on the night of Nov. 29, 1929, taking the lives of eleven crew members.

Emily Sikuli whose father Temou Samuela was the carpenter on Nikumaroro says the landing was made on the outer portion of the reef flat just north of the wreck of the Norwich City, that the plane was visible at low tide however the shipwreck obscured vision from the settlement. Tighar.

"She landed on a tiny atoll – one of many in that general area of the Pacific – and was picked up by a Japanese fishing boat that took her to the Marshall Islands then under Japanese control." Amy Otis Earhart’s statement to the Los Angeles Times in July 1949.

"Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz told me without equivocation that Amelia and Fred had gone down in the Marshalls and were taken by the Japanese, that this knowledge was documented in Washington." Fred Goerner, CBS News.

In 1981 Catholic clergyman Monsignor James Francis Kelley revealed he was instrumental in Amelia Earhart’s repatriation from Japan, and that he helped her create a new identity as Irene Bolam. A woman by that name who died in New Jersey in 1982 was in fact Amelia Earhart, she was secretly repatriated to the US from Japan after World War Two.

A few summers ago I was lazying on the beach watching the surfers and bodyboarders and a woman stood on the sand calling her husband in but he didn't want to go. He was having the time of his life catching some lovely waves. She stood there and yelled and waved again. No luck. Then the kids joined in waving and making kiddie noise. Finally the woman gave up, collected their gear and she and the kids started walking back to the car. Eventually poor ol' dad stumbled out of the surf and followed them. That was his bit of fun for the week. No doubt he had a kiddie's birthday party to go to where he'd stand in a corner with the other men drinking beer and talking politics and his wife would be in the other corner with the other moms talking their heads off about canteen rosters and the kids would be charging about making their inane noise until one inevitably collided with a piece of furniture and out poured the tears. But one man's heart wasn't in the social chit chat. He was out there in the waves under a blue sky, paddling, paddling and catching a ride and gliding down a wall of water. That man was @Ragnar

My brush with (Kennedy) fame! Eat your hearts out Yankee boys!     (i.ibb.co)

How's this for the boy downunder; the boy from the bush...I was cycling along the bike path near the Embassy Belt in Australia's Capital when I came across a middle-aged woman with a dog, maybe two (a big poodle-looking thing) followed by a tall gent. As is my custom with walkers, I nodded and the woman half-smiled back and then I thought: "you seem familiar" and as if she read my mind she started speaking with that unmistakable yankee drawl to her companion and then the penny dropped. I'm pretty sure the woman was Caroline Kennedy.
