How do these kids not know how to read, when literally all they do is stay glued to their social media garbage and depend on its comments and engagement for the dopamine hits?
If someone from that era literally managed to invent a time machine, they undoubtedly would not have known to account for the Milky Way's drift along the Laniakea supercluster and would have been off by hundreds of millions of miles, and died in deep space.
If it were some sort of time-lensing invention allowing that person to just peer into the future without accessing it directly (such as in the movie "Paycheck"), the odds of them being able to then also refine it to the point that they could see specific inventions or even inventors without decades of refinement and improvements is literally negligible.
Not to mention that either scenario would also be akin to somehow managing to invent and master Star Trek's warp drive, just so they could use it to invent the jet engine.
If PBS was more of this stuff and less what gender Elmo's autistic friend likes to identify as during sex, I'd be less opposed to continuing to fund the thing.

That means that if my grandfather wanted me to have the same buying power that $100 would have gotten him at the time, he would have had to save and set aside over $3300. And that's without even addressing taxes.
The truthful answer? Because you're not thinking about anything except stopping the pain. You don't want to actually kill yourself (usually); you just want to stop fucking hurting so badly, at any cost. Taking her with him would mean planning, confrontation & action, guilt (leaving his girls with no parent at all). Sealing up his car in the garage just means a few minutes with a bad headache, then the pain stops.
