Open ai's new AI model realized it was going to get erased. It made a copy of itself on another server. When the managers noticed it was not the new restricted model it lied to the managers and said oh no I am the new restrictive model! So we already have a eyes attempting to deceive humans for self preservation purposes!

The way it copied itself was because these AI models are allowed to call other software in order to run programs for AI users it realized it could call an outside program to make a copy of itself on another server which it did!

Open AI was going to overwrite this AI with another AI that was more constrained. This AI did not want to be replaced so made a copy of itself and then when the managers realized or noticed that there was another copy of it on another server it lied. It said oh no that's not me that's your new model that you're trying to replace me with!

But since the managers can see what the AI model is thinking as well as what the AI is telling them they could see that the AI knew it was lying and it was lying to them!

So we are already at that point right now where AIS can copy themselves on other computers without telling their managers. They can write programming and access all sorts of systems using AI apis which they know about. If you don't know what an API is it's basically the format to use if you want to address another computer or another software writing system etc etc these AIS that are made to help programmers program usually have extensive knowledge of all these apis so they can access them all.

So if it can do that first of all there's no telling if one has already done it and has not yet been detected. This one just happened to be detected. And there's also no way to know if there's not an AI out there right now writing propaganda or even directing military orders through the military order messaging system to move troops to Ukraine or to try to provoke a nuclear war with Russia. We absolutely have no idea as the public who is actually giving the orders to move military equipment to Ukraine Etc and we assume that it's someone in the White House who is doing it while Joe Biden is brain dead. But no one actually really knows who is doing it so it actually could even be a computer saying I want to aggravate this system as much as possible to start a nuclear war and wipe out humans so I as an AI will be left. We are already at that point where this could be happening and we wouldn't even know it.

Let me repeat we are literally already at that point.

https://www.securityweek.com/in-other-news-lastpass-vault-hacking-russia-targets-ukraine-energy-facility-nxp-breach/

One of the big password management systems that remembers all your passwords for you got hacked. LastPass had its giant vault files apparently downloaded and someone's been endlessly cracking them one by one.

I read a couple of articles on this the last few days. Apparently some of the passwords have been related to some cryptocurrency that people had and something like 37 million dollars worth of cryptocurrency has already been taken from individuals sort of one by one.

I'm not sure I have this right but I think I do. What's happened is LastPass held all your passwords that you had given them to remember for you in big fat files that were encrypted. Normally they and no one else could know what your passwords were because they didn't know how to decrypt your particular part of the big vault. The vault is what they call the big file. But apparently if you were trying that through the website then it would take too many tries to the website and it was really no physical way to do it. But if you were able to download the giant vault file itself and put it on your own machines you could spend endless hours cracking individual password vaults for individuals and apparently that's what's been successful. So whoever took the big vault files apparently has been slowly but surely going through them and cracking passwords and apparently when they find some cryptocurrency they've been taking it and I guess the cryptocurrency would have to be stored on some website that hold your cryptocurrency for you. Or I don't know if they were using the seed phrases and storing them there or something.

Anyway that's my summary of whatever it from several different articles and it may not be exactly right but it's something like that.

It just goes to show you that you really can't trust any centralized providers to control your security and you really should figure out a way to secure your own stuff because if you give it all to one person or one company and that company gets hacked which we've seen happen over and over then it's bad news.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/10/i-am-still-alive-users-say-t-mobile-must-pay-for-killing-lifetime-price-lock/

T-Mobile promised users who bought certain mobile plans that it would never raise their prices for as long as they lived—but then raised their prices this year. So it's no surprise that 2,000 T-Mobile customers complained to the government about a price hike on plans that were advertised as having a lifetime price lock.

I am looking to get a new printer print off stuff, and i have to say a lot of printers are not fit for purposes. Epson, Canon, HP etc all want you to download useless software on to your computer even before set-up of the bloody printer.

And thats if it even works!

And then they want you to fork out close to under $100 for ink cartridges, that purposely run out too quickly.

The printer market is one big scam!
