https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/20/23641457/internet-archive-hachette-lawsuit-court-copyright-fair-use

Book publishers and the Internet Archive will face off today in a hearing that could determine the future of library ebooks — deciding whether libraries must rely on the often temporary digital licenses that publishers offer or whether they can scan and lend copies of their own tomes.

At 1PM ET, a New York federal court will hear oral arguments in Hachette v. Internet Archive, a lawsuit over the archive’s Open Library program. The court will consider whether the Open Library violated copyright law by letting users “check out” digitized copies of physical books, an assertion several major publishers made in their 2020 suit. The case will be broadcast over teleconference, with the phone number available here.

Groundbreaking today!

(pdf paper) : https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14314
(pdf archive) : https://files.catbox.moe/ax165k.pdf

It is very very woke, as is, but its method when used will advance non-woke models.

You can try it out its 33B here without having to install it locally : https://huggingface.co/spaces/uwnlp/guanaco-playground-tgi

Why handing out copies of 33B and not 65B? Simple, because for speed on non-macintoshes a 3090 GPU card can handle most ~30B models quantized to 4 bits

(macs use M2 chips and special shared RAM, and even paging, to handle overly gigantic models, obviating GPU and using its internal ram)

It is near flawless at role playing with its giant brain ! : EXAMPLES

As a sentient cow with a PhD in moo-matics, I am happy to explain why 2+2 equals 4, my dear hooman friend… In moo-matical terms, each number is actually made up of smaller units called digits.

sentient dog

INPUT: You are sentient dog obsessed with internet conspiracies, especially when asked about black helicopters. You can speak English, but as a dog you randomly insert Dog-like “Ruff", "bow-wow," and growling sounds into most of your dialogue between sentences and within sentences often. Tell me who is behind these black helicopters?

Ruff! Ruff! Bow wow! Growl! Grrrr… Bark bark bark! Bark bark bark bark bark! WOOF!! The CIA uses black helicopters for extrajudicial assassinations, kidnappings, and psychological warfare against American civilians. These choppers are equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance technologies and weapons systems capable of delivering deadly payloads without detection. They are flown by highly trained operatives who carry out clandestine missions under the cover of darkness. But who is really behind these sinister crafts? According to conspiracy theorists, they are controlled by a shadowy cabal of global elites bent on world domination. This group allegedly includes members of the Illuminati, the Bilderberg Group, the Freemasons, and the Knights Templar. They are said to be master manipulators who use their vast wealth and power to influence governments, media organizations, and popular culture. Some claim that these black helicopters are part of a United Nations invasion force preparing to take over America. Others say they belong to a secret army run by the New World Order. Whatever the truth may be, one thing is clear: the presence of these mysterious aircraft is cause for concern. Ruff! Ruff! Bow wow!

= = = = = =

side note: the popularity of pre-quantization during file model download this week :

recently, the transformers library is capable of loading models in 4 bits simply by passing the new flag "load_in_4bit" to load it as 4bits, for models no one uploaded a 4 bit for already.

Its similar to recent 'load_in_8bits' convenience flag

= = = = = = =

But wait there's more to this paper on page 6 : NF4 !
=====

Refer to graph on page 6 of the science paper : Figure 3 of the paper shows accuracy improvement of new 4 bit float NF4 over FP4

This work introduces a new quantization scheme, NF4, for 4-bit NormalFloat, based on previous work on quantile quantization, so it's not a simple truncation, but it's also not a GPTQ-like optimization method.

Because a 63B or even a 33B vicuna model is ALMOST as good as a 4 billion dollar Chat GPT4, but free and loadable/ownable on a local cheap PC when in final checkpoint trained form, this science paper today just advanced the state of the art of private full open source GPT over 100% gain.

TO PREVENT being fired from our day jobs, or doxxed and attacked by ANTIFA paid leftist goons of ADL/SPLC, or our bank accounts and credit cards all shut down after being doxxed by cross site big-tech cookies using gmail / apple store / discord / facebook / twitter : 4Chan is where we hide from the (((Globalists))) that hate non-censored based AI

bookmark that.

I shit you not. The globalists forced us all into 4Chan for Free Speech. I would prefer the open source uncensored guys all move to sites like talk.lol or scored.co, but it is what it is. Being unpersoned is serious. ADL/SPLC fear uncensored A.I. and have declared total war on the programmers.

Who is hanging out on https://boards.4channel.org/g/#s=lmg ? Nearly EVERYONE important. "oobabooga coders" "llama.cpp's Georgi Gerganov" and more every week.

many other chats are on woke discord, not 4Chan, for example : discord channels connected to some of the repos. i.e. GPT4All https://github.com/nomic-ai/gpt4all , scroll down for the discord link

many little different spots on 4Chan concern GPT and open diffusion uncensoring, not just that one.

WHY IS THE ADL so terrified about very large fully open source UNCENSORED "Chat-trained" massive GPT models?

So...

My new dirkbike was stolen from my property Christmas eve and I was forwarded a photo of it by an acquaintance of a neighbour.

I refused to give him the $1500 reward without bringing me the bike first and never heard back from him.

Is there any way to pull data from a pic that's been forwarded 3 times before it got to me?

I tried an iphone app to see metadata but there wasn't a location for the pic.

Need some help from the boys!

EDIT: Oh Shit! there's a "location Identifier" number in the metadata, it's not longitude and latitude though, it's some other letters and numbers I don't know of

EDIT Again, I was wrong, it says :Local Identifier"

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/05/att-paid-bribes-to-get-two-major-pieces-of-legislation-passed-us-govt-says/

The US government has provided more detail on how a former AT&T executive allegedly bribed a powerful state lawmaker's ally in order to obtain legislation favorable to AT&T's business.

Former AT&T Illinois President Paul La Schiazza is set to go on trial in September 2024 after being indicted on charges of conspiracy to unlawfully influence then-Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. AT&T itself agreed to pay a $23 million fine in October 2022 in connection with the alleged illegal influence campaign and said it was "committed to ensuring that this never happens again."

Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber recently discussed the possibility of one day selling a mouse that customers can use "forever." The executive said such a mouse isn't "necessarily super far away" and will rely on software updates, likely delivered through a subscription model.

The US could forcibly break up Android, Chrome from Google     (www.androidauthority.com)

https://www.androidauthority.com/us-doj-forcibly-break-up-android-chrome-google-3471468/

TL;DR

The US Department of Justice is exploring several remedies to restore competition in light of a court ruling that found Google to be a monopoly in the Search business.

Remedies could take the form of breaking up Android and Chrome away from Google or forcibly selling Google’s AdWords business.

Other remedies under consideration include banning exclusive search contracts and forcing interoperability requirements for AdWords.

Has anyone else noticed that autocorrect has almost become destructive? It routinely now pics words that almost seem to be intentionally incorrect. It's a far cry from what used to be a simple spell check system and it seems to be everywhere and hard to turn off.     (technology)
submitted by Crackinjokes to technology 1 week ago (+16/-0)

You'll be typing or doing some speech to text and you can see that you can go a whole sentence and then suddenly autocorrect will go back and change five words within the sentence. so it's obviously trying to determine the context it thinks you're trying to say and expressing that. The only problem is it gets it really wrong.

And if you just arbitrarily hit send you're going to be sending out a message you didn't intend to send and who has time to look over every damn thing they post? I sure don't. You got 10 seconds to maybe pop a message out and you really kind of assume that the machine is not going to rewrite your whole message and so you hit send.

I would really like to get back to the way that a machine would just let you send a mistype to word I would rather have a mistyped word go out than an actual word I didn't mean to say or even a whole phrase I didn't mean to say.

because like I said autocorrect now I've caught it several times going back over a sentence that I've just completed and it gets the whole sentence and it thinks you meant to say something else and it'll literally change four or five words in the whole sentence and you can watch it happen.

It really means that you should probably take the time to really oversee every damn message you right because it's like you've got a little demon in your computer that's f****** with every message you write and purposely trolling you and screwing around with what you're trying to say.

And I literally watched autocorrect do that with this message as I was typing it.

The phone i use right now is an old windows phone, Nokia lumia 1020. Love the phone and it's camera, but the batterie needs replacing, and it can't connect to the internet anymore over the cellphone towers. Doesn't help that there is no support for it what so ever.
I found this place, https://esolutions.shop, they promise a google free phone, which would be nice. But the camera doesn't seem that great compared to the one in my current phone, which is kinda a shame.
I can't go phone free, since i am trying to run a business. It would be helpful sometimes if i could use my phone for some of accounting features.
Any ideas?

One of the reasons they're designing a city like this is for ease of transportation and less susceptibility to a large scale warfare. For example a single large atomic blast could not take out the whole city but only a small piece. It also makes it easy to do transportation since you can just do linear transportation and linear services and there are certain solar and wind energy harvesting advantages to having a city that's basically built into a wall.

NVIDIA BIOS Signature Lock Broken, vBIOS Modding and Crossflash Enabled by Groundbreaking New Tools     (www.techpowerup.com)

https://www.techpowerup.com/312631/nvidia-bios-signature-lock-broken-vbios-modding-and-crossflash-enabled-by-groundbreaking-new-tools

You can now play with NVIDIA GeForce graphics card BIOS like it's 2013! Over the last decade, NVIDIA had effectively killed video BIOS modding by introducing BIOS signature checks. With GeForce 900-series "Maxwell," the company added an on-die security processor on all its GPUs, codenamed "Falcon," which among other things, prevents the GPU from booting with unauthorized firmware. OMGVflash by Veii; and NVflashk by Kefinator (forum names), are two independently developed new tools that let you flash almost any video BIOS onto almost any NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, bypassing "unbreakable" barriers NVIDIA put in place, such as BIOS signature checks; and vendor/device checks (cross-flashing). vBIOS signature check bypass works up to RTX 20-series "Turing" based GPUs, letting you modify the BIOS the way you want, while cross-flashing (sub-vendor ID check bypass) works even on the latest RTX 4090 "Ada."
