He was preaching and he mentioned something that both me and my gf were repulsed by. He said since all authority is founded by God, that we all need to shut up and listen to the government: the same government that forced COVID down our throats, lies about everything, uses propaganda against its own people. Part of me wonders if he got paid off or was given a big break to spout this horse crap.

Part of me wonders if he's compromised or was given a bag of cash to spout this dogma

Scroll over the links for comments on posts. The postID is started with 666. Then random numbers and letters are appended to it. There is no reason 666 should be on there. The random numbers and letters is all that is needed.

Christianity quickly diminishing in US, on pace to become minority religion in decades: study     (Christianity)
submitted by oppressed to Christianity 2.6 years ago (+29/-2)
126 comments last comment...
Arecently released study suggests the number of Christians in the United States is diminishing quickly and being replaced by those who do not identify with any religion.

A new report by Pew Research Center and the General Social Survey published Tuesday found a surge of adults leaving Christianity to become atheist, agnostic or "nothing in particular." It predicted that if the number of Christians under 30 abandoning their faith accelerates beyond the current pace, adherents of the historically dominant religion of the U.S. could become a minority by 2045.

Noting how approximately 90% of Americans identified as Christians in the early 1990s, the study observed that number, which includes children, had fallen to only 64% by 2020. The number of people in the U.S. who identify as religiously unaffiliated, meanwhile, skyrocketed from 16% in 2007 to 29% in 2020, the research showed. Other religions such as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, accounted for approximately 6% in 2020.

The study presented four hypothetical scenarios by which the U.S. religious landscape could change in the coming decades. In one scenario, researchers analyzed the potential impact of young Christian adults abandoning their faith and switching affiliation without limitation.

The other three scenarios hypothesize other types of increasing religious disaffiliation, but "they all show Christians continuing to shrink as a share of the U.S. population, even under the counterfactual assumption that all switching came to a complete stop in 2020."

All four scenarios project swelling ranks among the religiously unaffiliated, or "nones," throughout the next half century. The only scenario that projects Christians maintaining a majority in the U.S. through 2070 is if no one changes their religious affiliation after 2020.

"Of course, it is possible that events outside the study’s model – such as war, economic depression, climate crisis, changing immigration patterns or religious innovations – could reverse current religious switching trends, leading to a revival of Christianity in the United States," the study said. "But there are no current switching patterns in the U.S. that can be factored into the mathematical models to project such a result."

METHODIST LEADERS SAY ‘REBELLION AND DYSFUNCTION’ OVER LGBT ISSUES SPLITTING DENOMINATION

The study's data showed that while more older Americans are remaining identified with Christianity, many younger adults are increasingly switching to "nones."

"If the pace of switching before the age of 30 were to speed up throughout the projection period without any brakes, Christians would no longer be a majority by 2045," Pew researchers noted.

In such a scenario, the number of religiously unaffiliated would stand at 52% and the number of Christians dip to 35% by 2070.

"Switching has not ended and there is no reason to think it will come to an abrupt stop," the researchers said, adding, "Still, if fewer future young adults switch from Christianity to no affiliation, or if movement in the opposite direction increases, the future religious landscape might resemble the results of this projection."

The researchers predicted based on recent generational trends that the most likely scenario among their hypotheticals is Christianity declining but still remaining capped at 50%.

Austrian bishop hangs banner of nude trans activist over main altar for Lent     (archive.ph)

(LifeSiteNews) – The Catholic bishop of Innsbruck, Austria, inaugurated a “Lenten” decoration of the main altar of the historic University church of Saint John Nepomuk, a baroque jewel from the early 18th century. The “decoration” shows an enlarged partial inverted photograph of a naked young man with scars and tattoos lying on a bed and has been placed as an altarpiece above the tabernacle of the former main altar of the church. The piece of contemporary art by Carmen Brucic was specially chosen by Bishop Hermann Glettler, and bears the title: “Tired.”

Bishop Glettler has campaigned for the blessing of same-sex couples in the past (more on that later).

In itself, the more-than-life-size picture (4.5 by 3 meters) is completely incongruous over an altar because it has no religious meaning. But the picture of this nude young man lying on his back in an exhausted attitude, barely missing the display of his genitalia, is doubly scandalous. Besides its obvious indecency in such a setting, it portrays a prominent figure of the “queer” scene in Tbilisi, thus openly glorifying a “gay” activist from Georgia whose image will remain over the tabernacle holding the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist until the end of Lent.

“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.”

I went to a church and didn't like it original content     (Christianity)

I was invited to a new year celebration at a church. I had nothing better to do so I went.

Everyone in the church was White with Slavic background. Service started with some performances and some words from the pastor. They spoke in Russian with strong accents and some words wrong.

Then everyone got on their knees and prayed to god out yelling praises in different languages. It was very chaotic.

Then another performance.

And another round of yelling prayers.

One guy asks the two pastors to pray for him. So they put their hands on his shoulder and start yelling stuff. One of the pastors is speaking in tongues like WOLOLOLO and his face is all red.

Then there is an after party. A youth pastor gives a speech about how they went to Africa and expelled demons from Africans. I think to myself that these Africans rape virgins to cure aids and its easy to trick them into pretending.

Then there is a round of prayer. The guy on my left is praying in hebrew, ADONAI ELOHIM ASHER ASHAM or whatever. Others are yelling in tongues WOLOLOLOLO. Very chaotic.

Later I'm introducing myself to some guy and I say the word bullshit. He recoils.

Someone asks me my thoughts and I try to explain how wasteful the efforts in Africa are but the guys head is in the clouds and he's not even hearing me.

I inquire from another person regarding how the organization is structured and if its run by one guy or a group or what. And the person I'm speaking with seems to think I'm implying their church is a for profit organization and gets defensive. I state that a church can't be for profit by definition and leave with no clarification.

People are asked for their new year resolutions, and most of them reply saying that they want to get closer to god or read the bible more.

Some thoughts,

The prayer was very chaotic and I did not like it at all. A lot of yelling. I did not like that they spoke in tongues. I did not like that one of the main guys was praying in Hebrew. I did not like that they go to Africa.

Matter of fact, if I was looking for a holy place I'd be better aligned visiting a mosque than this type of church.

Also when they are making those WOLOLOLO noises trying to speak in tongues. They are just pretending. It is obvious and stupid. They're trying to channel god into speaking though what they're gonna get is some jin.

I've recently had some lovely and optimistic things happen in my life after a long period of distress and after joining a prayer group at my church. Yet I still find it difficult believing such a seemingly simple act could "work." I understand it as a challenge of faith, and I have been trying a great deal believe, but feel I am failing.

Have you ever experienced an answered prayer, and how did it "feel"? Were you able to completely accept on faith that praying worked?

I learned to stop praying for wisdom because you only gain wisdom when faced with unforeseen challenges where all kinds of shit can go wrong and you learn a lot. These days, I only pray for strength and courage and things have been much smoother. lol
