I have been thinking about an old friend of mine lately. His name was Claude.

Claude grew up without a father, the reason why is unknown to me. He had a mother that loved him, but it wasn't enough to keep him away from his love for drugs. He was a good guy, funny, no malice. You could trust him with anything except money and drugs.

One time we were hanging out at some other friend's place, it was the summer so we were in and out from the balcony. The other friend and I came inside to get more beer and there was a poop on the floor, I said: "pick it up man, it must be your kitten, it happens". So he picked it up with bare hands and threw it in the garbage... But then Claude came out from the toilet and unprompted, he admitted he had a "little accident and it slipped out of his shorts". Good times.

The guy has been around for most of my childhood and teenage years, then as we grew older our group of friends lost touch, some of us moved to larger cities. One day the news came, Claude had died. He froze to death, alone, on the main street of our hometown.

May his gruesome death serve as a warning and perhaps as a motivation to my fellow men: You can have the love of a mother, you can have "friends" but when the going gets tough, [i]nobody is coming to save you[/i].
