A few traditions in the Roman Catholic Church can be traced back to pagan cults, rites, and deities.

Key Takeaways
1) The Catholic rite of Holy Communion parallels pre-Christian Greco-Roman and Egyptian rituals that involved eating the body and blood of a god.
2) A number of Catholic holidays and myths, such as Christmas, Easter, and Mardi Gras, graph onto the timeline of pre-Christian fertility festivals.
3) The Catholic practice of praying to saints has been called “de-facto idolatry” and even a relic of goddess worship.

Koko's last sign-language message was "help and protect the earth". The one before that was presumably "please keep funding sign-language studies for apes". Your Bullshit-o-meter should be at 11.

Edit: At the time, I believed the story. It didn't seem impossible. I didn't think everyone would collude to just make that shit up. Then I recently read about Koko's last "message to humanity" was to save/fix the planet. Umm...there is no way that was true. And it wasn't!
