Any Tech Fags Here?

submitted by NedsHead to technology 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 07:51:37 ago (+16/-0)     (technology)

So...

My new dirkbike was stolen from my property Christmas eve and I was forwarded a photo of it by an acquaintance of a neighbour.

I refused to give him the $1500 reward without bringing me the bike first and never heard back from him.

Is there any way to pull data from a pic that's been forwarded 3 times before it got to me?

I tried an iphone app to see metadata but there wasn't a location for the pic.

Need some help from the boys!

EDIT: Oh Shit! there's a "location Identifier" number in the metadata, it's not longitude and latitude though, it's some other letters and numbers I don't know of

EDIT Again, I was wrong, it says :Local Identifier"

This is a criminal investigation in which this “acquaintance” has implicated himself. Get the cops knocking on his door and the bitch will tell you the location right away.

[ - ] chrimony 6 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 08:02:42 ago (+6/-0)

He might, but most will just deny everything. Also likely cops will do jack shit for a stolen dirt bike. But it's still worth a try.

My cousin took his Yamaha R6 to a mechanic, who then basically stole the motorcycle, played stupid that he had it and just kept it. Cousin called the cops, cops just said, eh he says he didn't steal it, then never bothered to look further into the case. Cops really really are pieces of shit.

[ - ] Sector2 5 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 11:48:17 ago (+5/-0)

It's not "theft", it's a civil dispute between a business and a customer. Cousin needs to become scarier.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 1 point 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 21:40:50 ago (+1/-0)

Which is when he gets a mate to try and buy it,refuses to pay shit until he's had a test ride to make sure it runs, then doesn't take it back.

Sold a mate an Audi a few years back when the dealer and mechanic tried to make me pay for a blown turbo covered by warranty as per the sales receipt. Told them to fix it. Sold it to a mate who's a collection agent that then went an did exactly that. Cops showed up at my house and got shown a sales receipt from the dealer with 100% mechanical warranty and an 'as is' sales receipt from me, mate got a cheap Audi with a newly rebuilt engine, mechanic got told to lawyer up and take the buyer to court.

It's not theft because the mechanic doesn't own the car and they were legally obligated to repair the car as per the sale agreement. Mate laughed his ass off when the mechanic sent his mates around for a visit. You don't want to know the kinds of people collection agents (or security guards) have in their contacts list.

He can deny but he still has the text on his phone with the bike and him saying he knows where it is and wants the reward money right?

[ - ] NedsHead [op] 0 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 22:32:32 ago (+0/-0)

Nothing on my end about the money, all I have is a pic of the bike

You got some choices to make, and a little self reflection. Do you allow these people to treat you like a bitch? Or do you be a fucking man a get your shit back, regardless of being scared of revenge from niggers? You must respond in a manner that they will forever steer clear of you. But like I said, it’s you and only you that can do it. Man, or bitch? It’s your call White man. I hope this works out for you. Id join your posse if you were my neighbor. Talk to other neighbors.

Sue them for the cost of the bike, then put a lien on their house, then force sale of the house, then buy their house for dirt cheap.

Being forced to lawyer up is a tough lesson for thieves to learn. Regardless if you win or lose, they will spend more than the bike is worth trying to keep it.

What is in the picture you were sent? There are some pro geoguessr players that thrive on finding out the location of where photos were taken just from a singular photo. I bet if you could find a Geoguessr community (they are probably on gay discord) you could get them to enthusiastically help you find out the location of where the photo was taken if you explain your scenario and send them the picture you received.

Also, there are several ways you could fuck with your neighbor. I don't envy your scenario.

The bike was ridden only on asphalt. Pretty clean.

Tell him to take you to where the bike is at - once you get a visual on where the bike is - he gets (some) money after you have recovered it. Tell the sausage wrangler he can even stay in the vehicle and hide his pussy ass face.
(Always bring back up in a split between your's and another vehicle, have them loaded for trouble).

GPS coordinates are embedded in the metadata of photos taken with smartphones and digital cameras. To see GPS data on windows, right-click the image and hit "Properties".

The acquaintance is likely the thief or related to the thief. Beat his ass no matter what happens.

So the tile looks like Amazon Blue Stone Marble Tile Tumbled 4"x4" X 3/8"

The Brand being Thula Home color blue

There seems to be an exhaust vent to the left. This likely a ground floor front room.

The bike looks like a Suzuki DR-Z400S maybe 2019

The floor looks like Evian Hard Maple

The picture was taken at 9:47 AM today. It's generic enough to be from many phones.

How was the photo sent? If by text, the yes the phone company can tell you where it was taken and what direction he was facing at the time.

If you can identify the condos or apartments in your area, you can check their interiors. And the positioning of air vents.
The Brand of tile, etc.

If the message was sent via email there are headers that can be checked, if by text then the phone company knows the subscriber

Read Never split the difference if you have contact it's an option.

Probably they are having trouble making rent and so they stole this

Also decide what you want. Them in jail? Or them to pay you for not turning them in?

So East Coast or MST Is it Riverton New Jersey at dusk? Or Riverton Utah at Sunset. One might assume Riverton Utah at Sunset. The sunset was 7:59 on April 8th, whereas it was Dusk in NJ. Riverton UT is bigger

If Utah

Check the apartment complex
4127 W Miner View Ln
Herriman, UT 84096

It is by the trails

In Apartments.com it has similar entry tiling

They should be able to tell you who has that style in what apartment. It's only 8mi from Riverton

It also would have a vent by the door you may be able to see the vent from Google Street view.

Also that is a library book for a kid. Check with your librarian, make up a story you believe a sisters child liked that book. Then see who checked it out.

The bike is a 2019 DRZ400-E and I'm in Australia man, The vent is actually a natural gas heater (very common around here)

[ - ] PoundOfFlesh 2 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 15:25:21 ago (+2/-0)*

Your neighbor is in on it. He and the "acquaintance" came up with a plan to steal your bike then profit from the reward by your neighbor pretending to be a good samaritan.

Cops won't do shit about it - they don't care about theft anymore.

Get a friend or two whom your neighbor doesn't know to follow him around, see whose houses he visits. One of them is probably the co-conspirator. Then bust in and take back your bike.

[ - ] albatrosv15 2 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 13:49:35 ago (+2/-0)*

Hack your neighbours wifi, start sniffing. You'll get details eventually. Is your neighbours wifi in your range somewhere on your property?

[ - ] Localuser 2 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 11:13:15 ago (+2/-0)

On iPhone you click the photo and save to files. Then open your file folder click the photo and select get info. In the information should say show more and a longitude latitude coordinate. If it’s gone it means it was removed.

[ - ] eongoat 1 point 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 17:41:56 ago (+1/-0)

match the data of the camera to another picture with matching data. Like from facebook or something. Then you'll probably find the location.

[ - ] MasterSuppressionTechnique 0 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 13:05:24 ago (+1/-1)*

Realistically, here is what you do:

1: File a police report. Write it up. Print the picture. Hand them the piece of paper. If they don't want to take a report, insist. They are legally required to. If they decline, specifically ask them if they are declining to take the report.

2. File a "Petition for Restitution and Recovery" with the court, asking for the dollar value of the item. You can type this up yourself and it will generally cost very little to file. Free if you can pull of a fee waiver. Small claims court might be cheaper if you don't qualify for a waiver.

Ask for "treble damages" just to be a dick.

You'd be naming the acquaintance, of course, who tried to extort you, as the thief, unless you know the real thief... I'm guessing the acquaintance, anyways.

If you win a judgment, it is a useless piece of paper. You will have to enforce it, which takes time and money (theirs, hopefully, not yours).

You almost have to be a lawyer to file a police report.

Where was the bike? Was it just sitting out in the open with the keys in it? If so, maybe don't mention that. Maybe, instead, say it was inside the garage, then take pictures of the busted doorknob, or forced entry, to show premeditation and make it a felony.

Include this in your packet to the police.

If acquaintance didn't steal the bike, they will quickly cough up who did to either you or the police under threat of arrest and threat of lawsuit.

Or not. Either way, you can apply a lot of pressure for a little bit of work. It may not work out, but you will prove yourself to be a royal pain in the ass and not worth the trouble in the future.

Navigating law is a skill worth developing. It isn't what they teach in law school and it isn't what you see on tv.

Also, if you have homeowner's insurance, you should also submit a claim. Even if they say no. They can also use lawyers to great effect.

[ - ] dassar 0 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 15:58:06 ago (+0/-0)

Why would the court convict someone in a civil dispute that is involved in negotiations for the return of the bike.
The acquittance could simply counter claim the owner was the one not going through with the recovery by refusing to hand over the finders fee to him and facilitate the return of said bike /.

[ - ] Cantaloupe 0 points 4 monthsDec 30, 2023 12:22:37 ago (+0/-0)
