I always assumed they would stop working after 10 years. Guess that was a myth.

Floppy disks might be better than USB drives on the annoying scale, being you try to insert USB drives upside down 75% of the time and goes bad after 2 years of casual use

Over time the data written on any magnetic storage device will deteriorate. It's not that the media fails but rather the data stored on it will eventually become corrupted. I had floppies that were still readable after 10 years but I also had lots that were unreadable, so for long term storage they are not recommended. As well they are more liable to physical damage due to how they are packaged. Hard drives fail but usually because of mechanical issues, rather than the platters going bad. But they are subject to the same issue of magnetically written data deteriorating over time, which is why they employ various technologies to help ensure that the data stays correct.

Tape is better than floppy disk for long term storage but hard disk drives are better still
