Arizona Marine Vet Disarms Robbery Suspect, Accepts Heroism Award in ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ T-Shirt Yuma, Arizona Facts: James Kilcer, a 32-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran (served 2007-2011) and Army Yuma Proving Ground civilian employee, disarmed a juvenile robbery suspect at a Chevron gas station on 10747 E. North Frontage Road around 4:30 a.m. on October 20, 2021, when three masked suspects entered, one armed with a handgun pointed at the cashier. Kilcer, talking to the clerk, grabbed the gun, tackled the suspect, and struck him with a bag of drinks (two Gatorades, two energy drinks, and a snack), causing the other two to flee. He detained the armed suspect until Yuma County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, with no injuries reported. The juvenile suspect was booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center for armed robbery and aggravated assault; two other juveniles were arrested later, one linked to a prior Circle K robbery. Surveillance video of the 8-second incident went viral with millions Sheriff Leon Wilmot presented Kilcer with the Citizen’s Valor Award, the highest for civilians, for “extraordinary heroism and exceptional courage” at life-threatening risk. OAKLAND, Cali- Two robbery NOGS are now dead, and three others are injured after the employees at a store they tried to rob fired back.
One employee was injured. Two suspects died from gunshot wounds, one at the scene, the other at a hospital. The remaining three suspects were injured, taken into custody and charged with murder and attempted robbery under California's felony murder rule. Police said of the five suspects, one was a 17-year-old.
