I they used to be a disgusting garbage dump of rotting trash on Staten Island. The people there were sick of it so they got enough signatures to put a referendum on the ballot to secede from NYC.

Rudy guliani won an election to be mayor and started the process to close the dump. So they didnt secede

Update in Maine: the chemicals are from teflon cooking that accumulate in human sewage.

decades ago the state was encouraging us to accept processed sewage as fertilizer by offering it for free. They would spread it on their fields.

Some of these farms have concentrations in the groundwater at 100X the safe limit.

Nothing can be done to get rid of it. I question how serious it actually is since no one is talking about banning teflon.
