Anyone else think they could beat Google search?     (AskUpgoat)

submitted by IwuvU to AskUpgoat 2.2 years ago

Google search is fucking terrible and anyone whose ever googled anything worth a damn knows it. You searched through 30 billion results in .56 seconds and the best you got is:

- a link to the home page of the thing I'm talking about
- a ten year old article that doesn't answer the question
- the opposite of what I asked
- by the 4th/5th result it's even more worthless

A few things,

- fucking try harder. Maybe search for .8 seconds. How is it economical when I have to do 50 variations of the search (.56*80) when you could do a search that isn't SHIT and get me the answer with less queries.

- me and people like me have searched for this before. What was the last page(s) we visited then? That would indicate where the solution was. Why Google not remember that and suggest those pages?

- why Google show exactly the same page when I obviously have not found the answer in it? They have no concept of a search session? Stop showing me the same useless shit, it didn't help the first 20 times. There's no way to tell Google that result isn't helpful?

-Google believes in diversity even in its search results and they are wrong about diversity yet again. Yes, give me all the stackoverflows before joms blog from 10 years ago.

- there are no tools other than fake "advanced search". It's just the one search box which ironically people proclaim as brilliant. No it's fucking not. I need more options to do a good search. More tools and widgets and features. I'm not searching for "what celebrity wore today". I need filters, history tools, regex tools, similar user search graphs, etc. And gonna need more horsepower than fake 30 billion in .56.

- political bias, selling you shit bias, God knows what else, taint their results.

I'm sure I could go on. But the idea that Google is unbeatable in search, I believe, is the biggest fraud in tech today. Google (and Bing) SUCK at search and I think I could beat them by fixing the problems mentioned above. Now what they DO have is infrastructure. For example scraping and storing all those pages would be a challenge but not, I believe insurmountable. I think search is rife for disruption by something that's not another Google clone.

--------

Extra:

Oh yeah, I think this could be done by leveraging NLP machine learning to check for similarities between things but I suspect you could get that part of it done without having to become an expert in it. If need be hire someone to hook up a basic phrase comparison function or rent an existing library to get the project off the ground. Anyways, I laugh at the idea that Google is using brilliant AI in their searches because their searches suck. A little NLP combined with literal comparisons and better search tools would work better, I think. At least for search sessions where you don't get your result instantly.

I don't think it's fair to call addicts "weak". They are fighting a demon. You ever fight a demon?     (TellUpgoat)

I guess this will be downvoted and all the replies will be from people assured that they are better and stronger than those in the midst of addiction. It's an easy way to look down on others but it's largely ignorant as it ignores the reasons people end up battling addiction in the first place. Also, not everyone who is addicted wants to quit so idk how you call that weak. In any case, there's some demon somewhere fucking with them and I think it's wrong to call them weak. Plenty addicts are beyond "functional" and are striving for excellence despite having one or more ball and chain tied to their legs.

Remember the net neutrality mania? Reminds me of Ukrainia. But NN was repealed (I guess) in 2019 and I didn't even notice. Was I a useful idiot by telling everyone I knew about the importance of NN? Now that I think of it I'm against pretty much all government regulations.     (AskUpgoat)

Censorship is at all time high but I don't think it's the ISPs doing that and I bet if they did do that they'd do it NN or not.

Anyways if I was wrong about NN maybe I'm wrong about other things and I find that thought too much to bear.

They seem like good people and we have a lot in common. I can code but they probably don't give a shit about that. Maybe I could send them gay Disney movies in exchange for oil and grains. Your thoughts?

Libtards love Nazis now. Voat for the most part isn't taking sides or is more on Russia's side. You should all want to move to Ukraine. Don't tell me voat has as few principals as libtards. I demand you go to Ukraine and fight the Russians.

I'm starting to think Joe Biden isn't on our side. Cancelling energy imports from Russia just convenient way to push green new deal globalist electrify and control everything.     (TellUpgoat)

He's so unconcerned about what the fuck is actually going on over there he's using this as a little opportunity to push the electrify and control everything green new deal. Really makes me start to wonder if this actually is planned by someone or if he's that tone deaf to the increased likelihood of nuclear war. I suspect it is both. Even if he thinks the situation is under control an accidental launch could happen. Then China will invade Tywan and he'll want to fight them too and obviously that will mean food rationing. Liberals are cancer. This government is leading us into slavery. Not enough good people into take a stand. We can't rely on people to choose freedom as they choose slavery. Once the slaves are captured they will come for us. Im telling you this is a huge ass fucking problem for all of us. Ideas? No I'm not FBI, if I was would I say fuck and shit? No. Just answer how you feel comfortable.

Why Putin bad?     (AskUpgoat)

submitted by IwuvU to AskUpgoat 2.2 years ago

Not really talking about their defense operations in Ukraine right now. I'm more talking about how the talking heads tell me that Putin is bad as though it's common knowledge / matter of fact / obviously / goes without saying. Actually I don't know hardly anything about Putin. But I do know what Trump Derangement Syndrome looks like and I'm seeing some similarities.

I've seen people make claims about how evil Putin did this or that terrible thing. But after these last couple years you're gonna need some good evidence before I believe any wild claims and with the government and Google in full propaganda and disinformation mode I'm really gonna have a hard time believing much of anything as it's all biased and agenda driven disinformation.

So maybe one of you can tell me. Why Putin bad?

imo Russia is (indirectly) fighting for every freedom loving U.S. citizen in this one as their enemy (an unholy corporate/government alliance) has made freedom its enemy.

Oh and I don't want to hear shit about using Sputnik news. Fake intellectuals latch onto the source of information instead of looking at the information itself which is why they wore masks like a dumb fuck and injected themselves with mystery goo cause puppy torture funding anti-science Fauci told them to.

Why the government doesn't just buy a ton of compute/servers to dominate crypto/TOR?     (AskUpgoat)

submitted by IwuvU to AskUpgoat 2.2 years ago

Especially with TOR all they would have to do is spend a few mil on nodes and they'd be able to see everything. Why don't they just do that? Seems like they'd be stupid not too...

Then as far as crypto why fight it? Just use the money they steal from us to buy all the compute and then they control the money again. I mean.... that'd definitely work.

For the price of 1 nuclear submarine (antiwar.com's Scott Horton's saying) they could do both and have enough left over to replace every statue of George Washington in the country with a crack pipe distribution kiosk.

Is Ethereum speculative bullshit?     (whatever)

submitted by IwuvU to whatever 2.2 years ago

The dollar vigilante points out that Ethereum contracts are public so no company would want to use it for actual contracts. Furthermore, do they have a killer app or anyone using it at all for anything yet? To me it seems like just another speculative coin but with the phantom foundation that public contracts would actually be useful to someone. The dollar vigilante recommends dero instead because it's like Ethereum but private. What do you think about that? I don't think anyone is even using smart contracts though, years after Ethereum was launched.

btw I think I have the dollar vigilantes game figured out. He invests in a coin, then pumps it hard, then sells. Maybe if you subscribe to his newsletter he tips you off that something is about to get pumped ($.01 to $1 is 100x) so you can maximize your profits and then he tells everyone else sometime later. The thing is he also says a lot of crazy shit (drink your own pee, moon landing was fake, there's no such thing as viruses, confident his ontological views are correct) that make me have doubts but I don't think that stuff matters when picking coins.
