Toyota's Ammonia Engine

Corrosion Of Conformity: Toyota Takes Aim At EVs With Ammonia Engine

Toyota working on petrol alternative to keep internal combustion alive

This GAC Group and Toyota-developed ammonia-combustion 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine produces 120kW of power. It also emits 90 per cent less carbon than an equivalent petrol engine.

Hydrogen released from splitting ammonia through electrolysis via the Haber-Bosch process is cheaper easier and safer to transport than hydrogen fuel cells for vehicles.

This 15 minute video is about making feature sizes smaller than the wavelength of the light used. It goes through the history smaller features and shorter wavelengths leading up to OPC, Optical Proximity Correction. Then it talks about the fancier technique ILT, Inverse Lithography technology. ILT requires too much computer power, and Nvidia have found ways to use GPU's to speed it up 42 times.

Court rules automakers can record and intercept owner text messages
A federal judge on Tuesday refused to bring back a class action lawsuit alleging four auto manufacturers had violated Washington state’s privacy laws by using vehicles’ on-board infotainment systems to record and intercept customers’ private text messages and mobile phone call logs.

The Seattle-based appellate judge ruled that the practice does not meet the threshold for an illegal privacy violation under state law, handing a big win to automakers Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and General Motors, which are defendants in five related class action suits focused on the issue. One of those cases, against Ford, had been dismissed on appeal previously.

Microsoft and Meta Detail Plans To Combat “Election Disinformation” Which Includes Meme Stamp-Style Watermarks and Reliance on “Fact Checkers”     (reclaimthenet.org)

And so it begins. In fact, it hardly ever stops – another election cycle in well on its way in the US. But what has emerged these last few years, and what continues to crop up the closer the election day gets, is the role of the most influential social platforms/tech companies.

Pressure on them is sometimes public, but mostly not, as the Twitter Files have taught us; and it is with this in mind that various announcements about combating “election disinformation” coming from Big Tech should be viewed.

Although, one can never discount the possibility that some – say, Microsoft – are doing it quite voluntarily. That company has now come out with what it calls “new steps to protect elections,” and is framing this concern for election integrity more broadly than just the goings-on in the US.

Does Using a VPN Keep all Web Traffic Secret from the ISP Modem?     (technology)
submitted by localsal to technology 1.5 years ago (+4/-0)

Topic came up in a discussion about Omegle shutting down.

Everyone needs an "approved" modem to connect to an ISP. And from what I understand, the modem uses the DNS to find web sites, etc. Is the DNS after the modem in the ISP server side?

The ultimate question is this: could a modem capture all of the header data from every website visit and search and store that in a log, even if using a VPN?

I don't understand the networking side of things very well, but a quick search explanation says that a VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between my computer and the VPN servers - does that mean my DNS lookups happen at the VPN now?

In terms of opsec, all my activity and searches are now stored at the VPN (even the ones that say they don't log anything), and the ISP modem only really sees just "traffic"?

My thought was that the ISP modem would capture all URLs and log those, and because the "approved" modems most likely log everything and allow ISPs to download those logs remotely, nothing can be trusted. In those crime shows where the zogbots get "browsing history", really they are getting the URL logs from the ISP, that the customer (me) has no ability to delete or even know they are there.

My counter to this would be to create a script that will constantly spam the router with a fake URL that would fill up the log very quickly. Whether that log writes over old entry, like a dashcam does, or if the ISP never expects the log file to fill up and just locks at that point, I don't know.

Is it worth it to look at this? I was thinking of just writing a version of a webcrawler script that will just try to get a fake URL over and over with a large payload (no idea what the max is - 256 characters? 10k characters?) and just do this forever.

When the heck did printers for PC's become so expensive to run & use?!     (technology)

I am looking to get a new printer print off stuff, and i have to say a lot of printers are not fit for purposes. Epson, Canon, HP etc all want you to download useless software on to your computer even before set-up of the bloody printer.

And thats if it even works!

And then they want you to fork out close to under $100 for ink cartridges, that purposely run out too quickly.

The printer market is one big scam!

Google’s on Trial. No Looking. Why a big chunk of the most important tech trial in years is happening behind closed doors.     (slate.com)

https://slate.com/technology/2023/10/google-trial-secret-redactions-trade-secrets-closed-door-testimony.html

Judge Amit Mehta, a Barack Obama appointee, has been widely derided by journalists and government transparency advocates for his repeated deference to requests by Google—and the other tech companies involved—to redact documents and hold witness testimony behind closed doors.

The case is ostensibly about protecting the interests of consumers and illuminating potentially untoward practices of a business nearly every American depends upon, but the public has consistently been shut out. Google Search has long been called a “black box.” Fittingly, so is its trial.

weird that slate is blasting a big mike appointee lol
