An Australian POW working there had been coopted into proofing scripts aimed at allied troops. Eventually he convinced the japanese to just let him write the scripts and he began using western memes and in-jokes to ensure they were as inoffensive and friendly as possible. He enlisted Ava's help and she began working under him reading the scripts and trying to sabotage the propaganda effort.
Troops largely enjoyed her broadcasts and after the war few of them reported ever having felt demoralised by them. However the lugenpresse were seething at the idea that a goy had made even token opposition to the jewish cause and cooked up a story of Tokyo Rose as a femme fatale who talked men to their deaths.
They began pestering her for interviews and eventually succeeded. Her and her japanese expat husband were living in poverty, so the money they offered (but never paid) would have helped them return home. Unfortunately for her, the interview gave the authorities the evidence they needed to arrest her. She ended up spending 20 years in prison before she was pardoned and released.
