MuWire - Distribute files using advanced i2p      (MuWire.com)

submitted by Aetherian to DissidentLiterature 2.3 years ago

μWire was designed to support anonymous file sharing. It uses i2p to share the files, or collections of files. i2p is a more advanced protocol than TOR. It doesn\'t rely upon a centralized entity and is released under a Free licence. \r\n \r\nGoats in this community who care about archiving and data availability ought to take a look and try seeding and downloading some content. \r\n \r\nThere is an example of a collection of David Irving books on MuWire here: \r\nUHcDbqpcw94VXGcL10p1GnZ7VRhGWpbDcmfwGj4iNyE=

Voat - Meet Aether!     (getaether.net)

Goats, if you haven't yet connected with Aether, I think you should. I make this announcement occasionally, as many people still haven't heard of Aether. It is an excellent place for Voat to regroup in the future, and in my opinion, should be where we gather usually.

The main reasons to use Aether include the following:

* Free Software - Released under a Free Licence
* Distributed - No central choke point
* Free Speech - Supportive of Free Expression
* Strong Resistance to Censorship - It is very difficult indeed to censor Aether
* Engineering - Well made
* You can read and post even when offline

If you are curious, then you are well suited to Aether.

Pro-Tips:

* /b/Voat is here - arrive and say hello:
aether://board/f2c944108971c509c3718a43e8bc77d95d3591746241b6a490e537f00122d98d

* By default, everything is nsfw, so in settings, enable viewing of NSFW subs

* Enable viewing thumbnails of links, if you like

* Back up your configuration to use Aether on other systems, and in case of corruption

* Subscribe to subs, eg:

/b/Covidhoax
/b/Politics
/b/Science
/b/News

Read the "About Aether" info on the homepage for more info. If you have questions, please let us know and we will try and answer!

Voat Should Use IPFS For Files and Images     (whatever)

submitted by Aetherian to whatever 2.6 years ago

Because IPFS (Inter Planetary File System) is very well engineered, distributed, censorship resistant, redundant, resilient, proven, easy to use, etc. With IPFS, if you value some content, for example, a meme, you can pin it too, helping make it available to others, speeding delivery of the file.

Ideally, Voat would integrate some IPFS functionality onto the site to make the cultural shift to using this technology easier. For example, a "Pin to IPFS" button for images.

Remember, YOU ARE THE ARCHIVE! If you use IPFS, you would hopefully be uploading the files you value enough to pin to other people too.

Here are a few notes and links to get people started:

# ipfs-desktop
This is an excellent tool to make pinning and retrieving files easy:
https://docs.ipfs.io/install/ipfs-desktop/#install-instructions

#ipfs-companion
An extension for your browser to facilitate online use of IPFS (Pro-Tip: after you install it, in settings, select "can read and change site data when you click the extension", or you might end up having lag with pages. Install and launch ipfs-desktop first, and permit it through your firewall.)
https://docs.ipfs.io/install/ipfs-companion/#install

# Hardbin
Paste text, for example links:

# ImageServer
Demo site so you can practice pinning images to IPFS
https://imageserver.link/

# Galacteek
Awesome tool with a huge amount of IPFS functionality. Publish blogs on IPFS, create an IPFS website, chat.

# Awesome IPFS
Site showcasing some nice IPFS related software

If you have any questions, I would be happy to try and answer them.

Voat on Aether     (whatever)

Goats, this is your reminder that you should be on Aether. If you have heard the reasoning before, you know it is right. It is fun on Aether right now watching Reddit meet Voat.

Goats, if you haven't heard of Aether yet, you are in for a treat. The arguments are compelling:

* Free Speech - to the extent permitted under the 1st Amendment
* Free Software - AGPL, Use, Study, Share and Improve the code as you like
* Distributed - No throttle point for censors
* Encrypted - Communications between peers are encrypted
* Ephemeral - Posts and comments vanish after 6 months
* Democratic - Impeach and remove unwanted power mods
* Development - Funded and under active development

https://getaether.net/dlstarted/

Read the documentation if you are curious. (You ought to be.)
https://getaether.net/docs/how_is_it_different_from/

Pro-Tips:

* NSFW - Everything, even /b/Cooking, is by default NSFW on Aether, so go into settings and enable NSFW
* Thumbnails - Aether is text based. Enable thumbnails if you want images.
* /b/Voat - Meet friends and ask questions here:
aether://board/f2c944108971c509c3718a43e8bc77d95d3591746241b6a490e537f00122d98d
* Freedom - If you want to verify you have free speech, try it in /b/Voat

If anybody has questions, objections or concerns, let us know here. I will be happy to try and answer them.

And get over to Aether!
