My wife used to do this all the time. She's getting better at it after I kept pointing out how easy it is to lift her phone or keys out of an open pocket. At least make it harder for someone and don't set your bag down where you don't have immediate control of it.
For some people it may be. For me, it's a good way to avoid price fluctuations when they decide to set fire to/declare bird flu at another egg farm. I'm not in it for the selling them, I do it because I eat them every day instead of processed breakfast food, and teaching my kids how to care for animals.

It's probably because the camera is infrared. IR can see through certain clothing that is made of plastic fibers.
