I hate Apple so much.

submitted by GreenSaint to whatever 1 yearJun 19, 2024 23:36:12 ago (+16/-2)     (whatever)

I know I need Linux also to build my own everything and I’m a fag and whatever but I have a pc and an iPhone. I torrent some video files. I can’t transfer them. iTunes doesn’t support mkv apparently. Of course they don’t tell you any of this you slide and it nothing happens cause fuck ypu figure it out. So I download a program to change them. Now it’s taking fucking forever. And you know, you just know it ain’t gonna work for some reason. Corrupted file or what the fuck ever. I remember when you could just drag and drop. God I hate Apple so much. I hate that it’s what Iv always used. I wanted to be sleeping hours ago. This is like trying to write a paper by holding the pen in your teeth.

Had to program some shit on the Apple platforms. Never again.

For file conversions you can use VLC media player.

Download, install, open, upper left ->Media, select convert/save, hit "+add" button, select your file, hit "convert/save" button, click the dropdown to the right of "profile" and select your output file type(it'll rip music/sound out of a video here if you want), click "browse" button near the bottom, select a folder to put the output file, name it and hit save, then start.

It'll show a progress bar as the video player's progress bar, when it hits the end, it's done.

Use Avidemux not vlc.

Every now and then a smart TV updates and stops supporting a movie so I use this to change codecs

I’ll look into when I get back from my road trip. That’s one thing that has me so pissed. I gotta wake up early and hit the road. So instead of being asleep by 8 pm like I wanted it’s 11 and I’m still fucking with it. I’m already using vlc so. I got 10 of 20 1 of 2 converted if it doesn’t work I guess I’ll have to wait till I get back. I woke up a couple hours earlier to change the second half. It’s in about ten gb chunks

That’s what I’m using. Vlc. I have about 2 10 gb files I’m changing so it’s taking a long ass time. I went to sleep last night got half converted now I’m doing the other half. I’m gonna be so upset if this doesn’t work. It’s a fight card I mean done put tons of movies and fights on my phone. I guess Piratebay changed the type of files they use idk. Or cause it was on my old computer idk I never paid attention to the type of file. Such a pain in the ass. The program seems pretty cool though. I used the older mp4 version when I’m not going on a road trip I’ll have to test the newer version.h265 or whatever it is.

I use Handbrake and find it works well.

My dad worked for Apple. Took no longer than less than a year for me to just absolutely hate that shit company with all their retarded preset options that give you know freedom to options.

Who are you? My twin brother? If you weren’t so gay I would introduce you at family get togethers. I typed this on an iPad, our family computer is an iMac. We game on a pc. (Me and the boys are into VR now, it’s a blast.)

[ - ] Sector2 0 points 1 yearJun 19, 2024 23:49:41 ago (+1/-1)

I got a PC for gaming purposes, but unlike the iMac it immediately developed a "driver issue". In 40 years of using the Mac OS, I've never had a problem with updating or using it.

[ - ] Portmanure 1 point 1 yearJun 19, 2024 23:58:12 ago (+2/-1)

I bought the iMac a long time ago, 1998 because I travel a lot, I can fix a pc in two seconds. But giving directions to my wife over the phone was a nightmare. Just reboot it became my go to instruction. My Mac computers always rebooted just fine. Hey, honey? What’s wrong? Did you restart it? Great! PCs don’t reboot well.

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 01:33:56 ago (+0/-0)

Thats because you can't game on mac duh.

[ - ] Sector2 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 01:56:53 ago (+0/-0)

PC exclusives are a thing, but I've got 20,000+ hours of gaming on Mac. A solid 30K if you go back to 1984.

I read something on Linux, that it downloads the dependencies it needs to make something work, and it doesn't download any more for other programs that need the same ones. I don't use Intel or NVIDIA, but AMD and Radeon firmware are already in the Linux kernel apparently.

What VR setup is good?

[ - ] Portmanure 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 00:28:48 ago (+0/-0)

We started with the Facebook quest but once they required a Facebook account we backed off. Now we us a PS5 vr, worse than Facebook but it’s a lot of fun. I watch a YouTube channel called thrillseeker this guy has it dialed in. Watch his channel he goes into detail about vr.

[ - ] GreenSaint [op] 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 07:58:36 ago (+0/-0)

Shooting games in vr are pretty fun. I want to get that one game. I forget what it’s called but Iv seen lots of videos of it.

Apple phones are pretty bad.

Android phones are even worse.

You lose no matter which option you choose.

Running linux on mac hardware is the balls knees.

[ - ] SteppingRazor 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 10:05:08 ago (+0/-0)

Can you upload them to a G drive then play them from there?

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 01:30:56 ago (+0/-0)

You can edit/configure/hack everything on windows/pc, thats why I stick with it. Eventhough the vanilla experience is horrendous, when you know how to fix things its great. Its miles better than any linux or mac.

[ - ] Love240 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 01:35:21 ago (+0/-0)

After decades of using Windows and finally settling on Linux, It's apparent how much more stable Linux is than Windows. And I would heartily disagree about the ability to configure and edit things on Windows being greater. For sure Linux has the greater flexibility there as well.

It might just be that you are simply used to it. There's nothing wrong with that. But it is definitely objectively arguable that Linux is much more editable and configurable.

I'll admit I'm not a programmer but I'm a superuser, I tried linux multiple times in a vm but I struggled to do the simplest things ever like a desktop shortcut. I don't ever want to use the terminal but yeah thats me.

Everything works ootb on windows, I have 4 monitors, I game, I make music, I monitor my temps, I block every add ever, it is 100% stable here for many years, I don't even understand what not stable means.

I want to like linux but nothing I tried ever worked on the first try, I despise it now. I admire programmers that can work with the terminal because to me it is ZERO intuitive.

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:23:54 ago (+1/-0)*

There's a lot of tasks where it's just faster for me to pop open a terminal. But then again I grew up in the DOS days so I'm used to command-line stuff. For instance, if I need to get a new IP address for whatever reason:

GUI: Right-click Network icon -> "Open Network And Sharing Center" -> "Change Adapter Settings" -> "Diagnose" -> WAIT....WAIT....WAIT....

Windows CLI: OS+R "cmd" -> "ipconfig /renew" -> "exit"

Linux CLI: Ctrl+Alt+T -> "dhclient -1 eth0" -> Ctrl+D

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:36:25 ago (+0/-0)

I know the simple dos commands but I would have to read an entire book to know the terminal. I prefer clicks personally.

You can't guess a terminal command you need to know the entire thing by heart, I can navigate around a gui and find what I need ALWAYS.

[ - ] uvulectomy 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:42:27 ago (+0/-0)

You absolutely do not need to know the entire thing by heart. And modern DE's let you get by without ever having to touch the command line. My 70y/o mother who hates computers uses Linux every day and I've never had a call asking me how to do something.

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 1 point 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:45:37 ago (+1/-0)

Yes because she only browses facebook and reads email, I'm a superuser here doing everything you possibly can with a computer.

[ - ] uvulectomy 3 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:48:39 ago (+3/-0)

doing everything you possibly can with a computer.

Except for learning how to use a different OS, apparently. Even when 95+% of the time you don't even need to know the CLI exists.

Much super. Very user.

[ - ] kes8 2 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 07:07:00 ago (+2/-0)

I love how he calls himself a super user but doesn't even use basic command line.

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:52:09 ago (+0/-0)

I said above, I tried linux multiple times, couldnt do shit with it a part for browser and email. Dont have time to waste when EVERYTHING works in windows.

[ - ] GroundskeeperWillie 1 point 1 yearJun 20, 2024 08:54:28 ago (+1/-0)

you're a superuser but cant run a fucking bash? I think you're a specialuser.

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 13:08:58 ago (+0/-0)

Ive met many programmers who didnt even know you could block ads and pirate stuff so I know I do stuff most people don't even know about. Powerusers and programmers are different things and yes I don't want to learn any program language, I use scripts sometimes but making them ? fuck that, no need here.

[ - ] Love240 1 point 1 yearJun 20, 2024 02:42:08 ago (+1/-0)

Fair. Multiple monitors, gaming, music; I would say these are definitely things Windows does right.

Some of those things work just fine on Linux now. It has caught up quite well with gaming, though some titles are locked into Windows, though I don't game anymore, so granted, it matters to me much less.

I do have 3 monitors that have all worked quite well the time I've been using multiple different distros.

Ability of editing/configuration your environment definitely goes to Linux.
VM's have also made some strides, there are some that run on the actual hardware and are much faster.

[ - ] TheNoticing 1 point 1 yearJun 20, 2024 09:13:45 ago (+1/-0)

Steam, Proton, and WINE allow you to play tons of games. Add Lutris and some games you can download the launcher itself.

[ - ] GreenSaint [op] 0 points 1 yearJun 20, 2024 07:05:22 ago (+0/-0)

I have an iPhone cause Iv always had an iPhone. It’s what I’m used to. I’d like to stick with a pc again cause it’s what I’m used to. I just don’t get why shit is made harder for no reason. I mean I do on apples end. They want you to spend money. You wanna know what’s ironic. I did get a movie on iTunes when I was a little kid. I also torrented a movie on limewire at the same time. This 2000s long time ago. Guess which movie I can still watch. Guess which movie just somehow still is in my library. The iTunes one says it’s in there but when you hit play nothing happens. It’s hilarious to me, you know in a rip your hair out sort of way

[ - ] Sector2 -2 points 1 yearJun 19, 2024 23:45:55 ago (+0/-2)

If you hate the Mac OS, then you effectively hate yourself. But don't use any of that other crap the faggot developed to pander to morons.
