The Matrix; It's actually a documentary.

[ - ] Belfuro 11 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 20:03:43 ago (+11/-0)

Starship troopers.

[ - ] Belfuro 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 22:54:45 ago (+3/-0)

Manuel is short hand for Emmanuel meaning beloved by God?

Its a white man's name. Stolen of course

They're all documentaries. Or admissions. Like wag the dog.

LeMans, 1971 with Steve McQueen. Awesome movie about auto racing.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:05:55 ago (+2/-0)

I loved European racing when I was a kid...
How frickin' cool those cars were/are!

[ - ] Lost 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:07:19 ago (+3/-0)

Those classic LeMans Porsches and Ferraris were the best sports cars of a generation.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:12:12 ago (+2/-0)

No doubt about it! I wonder how many of those are still around in personal collections and measures.
I couldn't imagine the thrill of driving one, let alone racing it.

[ - ] Lost 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 20:15:36 ago (+2/-0)

Years ago I knew a man (through other people) who had an orginal Ford GT40 MK2. It wasn't a LeMans car but did race at Watkins Glen and Daytona in the 60's. There was something awe inspiring about that car.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 21:11:11 ago (+1/-0)

There was something awe inspiring about that car.

Pure American fuck you!

[ - ] Lost 0 points 3 weeksApr 11, 2024 03:53:04 ago (+1/-1)

The GT40 was basically Henry Ford II's way of telling Enzo Ferrari and the other wops to kiss his American ass.

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 2 weeksApr 11, 2024 23:23:29 ago (+0/-0)

That was the point of my comment without the history.

Wellp, you have the italian and the irish bootlegging in a movie. Funny, but if you google Seagrams and Samual Bronfman, they're still around. Would you say that they were the "irish" or the "italians"?

Curius, don't you think?

Wyatt Earp was a true badass. Anyman that hunts "Cowboys" for a living and pulls it off for over a decade is a fucking warrior among men.

[ - ] Monica 2 points 3 weeksApr 11, 2024 05:35:01 ago (+2/-0)

Wasnt he a pig who enforced gun grabs?

[ - ] KangzNSheeit 4 points 3 weeksApr 11, 2024 05:40:01 ago (+4/-0)

The cowboys and the earps were very similar in behavior, the earps just won and wrote the narrative

[ - ] Lost 1 point 2 weeksApr 11, 2024 18:54:04 ago (+1/-0)

This, the Earps were pimps and human smugglers who ran hookers and gambling in Tombstone. The Clanton cowboys were armed robbers and cattle rustlers who wanted to expand into prostitution and gambling. All the OK Corral shootout was two competing organized crime factions fighting.

[ - ] GreatSatan 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 22:11:29 ago (+3/-1)

LotR?

Is that LoTR?

[ - ] big_fat_dangus 5 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:04:01 ago (+6/-1)

Yea. The extended version is worth the time if you haven't seen it yet.

[ - ] we_kill_creativity 4 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:50:07 ago (+4/-0)

The best part of the extended editions is the two discs making of documentaries for each film. They basically only hired Tolkein nerds and the technical things they did to make those films is amazing.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 0 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:09:57 ago (+0/-0)

Never got around to seeing it. I will have to check it out.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 5 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 19:47:26 ago (+5/-0)

One of the few well-done movie series. They did a great job translating the books into cinema. The books were written by a man with an interest in old Aryan history and tales, which is why they were so good.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 0 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 23:50:05 ago (+0/-0)

The main criticism I have for the extended version was the scene with Gandalf and Pippin in Minas Tirith. It wasn't extended, but replaced with a scene where Gandalf was a total dickhead to Pippin, whilst hacking up from his pipe weed. In the original scene, Gandalf was more grandfatherly.

[ - ] Darwintroll 1 point 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 21:27:33 ago (+1/-0)

The LOTR series, without a doubt!

[ - ] RMGoetbbels 5 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 20:03:46 ago (+5/-0)

That's a tough one.

Right now it's God Bless America, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1912398/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_God%2520Bless, because I like how that guy just says fuck it and how the little girl gets exited about killing motherfuckers.

Time and time again though, it's American History X partly because I love how he curbs that nigger but mostly because the director wanted me to feel a certain way about it but it does just the opposite. It shows the the truth albeit disguised as something evil.

Honorable mention for any clint eastwood spaghetti flick or any john wayne movie.

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 1 point 3 weeksApr 11, 2024 02:04:15 ago (+1/-0)

I read something once that said there was a version of AHX where the last scene was Edward Norton shaving his head. Not sure if true, but it was definitely thought provoking.

It was explained as the whole movie was a circle of violence and hate, but it was cut to make it a softer emotional ending.

[ - ] JudyStroyer 2 points 2 weeksApr 11, 2024 14:44:00 ago (+2/-0)

From i have heard, you are referring to the “directors cut” iirc

[ - ] anrach 2 points 2 weeksApr 11, 2024 18:42:14 ago (+2/-0)

Can't say I have an all-time favourite, but some recommendations:

Gattaca (even though I'm pro-eugenics)
The Ninth Gate (even though I take a dim view of desert religions)
Byzantium
Brotherhood of the Wolf (French language, awesome mix of action flick and period mystery)
The Day The Earth Caught Fire

More recently, 'The Northman' was quite good.

Bonus movie: No One Lives (not-so-serious horror flick with an oddly likeable serial killer)

[ - ] Shotinthedark2 2 points 2 weeksApr 11, 2024 18:40:56 ago (+2/-0)

Tom Cruise did some great movies

Risky business. This was coming of age movie for every young man in the '80s. If you haven't seen it you have to see it.

Oblivion. A great science fiction story with a great reveal which I can't tell you or it'll spoil the whole thing but let's just put it this way it's sort of another version of the matrix.

Dunno blade runner 2049 is up there.

Just ask yourself one question and try to prove your answer with facts from the movie and you’ll see how genius this movie is at not making the question answerable. - Why was the girl in the bubble the one they were looking for?

Probably mostly nostalgia but fuck it, I said it and I fucking mean it. It had mystery, murder, sex appeal, swearing, intense fight scenes, and comedy all wrapped into one in the 80's. Groundbreaking shit, plus I was like 3 so it has a special place in my heart

Talk about an All-Star cast! WOW!

I'm glad I grew up when Westerns were popular! They really showed boys how to be manly!

I'm shocked that the movie studio "The Mirisch Company" wasn't really a household name. They had quite a bit of success, but, for some reason, they just didn't seem to make it big.

Truly scrumptious in the Chitty Chitty bang bang movie was the g-rated version

Believe it or not, the director made Amelie political...
He said she was a Communist KGB spy.

Top 3 would be
Casablanca, Jaws, and Top Gun.

Casablanca has everything you could want in a movie in it (other than tits, I guess) and every time I watch it, I catch some new small thing.

I saw the first one, That was some weird stuff! I wonder what that conversation was like when they pitched it to the studios. "Well, you see these humans find themselves imprisioned..."

Spaceballs. How can you not like a movie that constantly makes fun of jews?

[ - ] ItsOk2bArian 3 points 3 weeksApr 11, 2024 01:52:13 ago (+3/-0)

Because it was made by a Jew so the jokes are tongue in cheek for his own people, not genuine ridicule of jews

Dirty Little Billy with Michael J Pollard in the title role, Richard Evans as Goldie and Lee Purcell as Berle, wrestling movie Mad Bull with Alex Karras in the title role and Steve Sandor as The White Knight, the midget actor who played White Knight's training partner should have received the Oscar for best supporting actor, seen here at ringside, and here training With Steve Sandor .. any help in finding his identity will be appreciated. I remember Michael J. Pollard from the Original Star Trek series. Also, Frank Welker (The Original Scooby Doo series) and Gary Bussey were in this too. How cool! Alex Karras was a stand-out football player. I'm surprised this movie isn't better known. I'll have to look that up some time and watch it.
