In one of Robert A. Heinlein’s most controversial bestsellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the Universe—and into battle with the Terran Mobile Infantry against mankind’s most alarming enemy. "Starship Troopers" is a military science fiction novel by American writer Robert A. Heinlein, published hardcover in December 1959. The story was first published (in abridged form) as a two-part serial in "The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction" as "Starship Soldier".

The first-person narrative is about a young soldier named Juan "Johnnie" Rico and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military service branch equipped with powered armor. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnoid species known as "the Bugs". Rico and the other characters discuss moral and philosophical aspects of suffrage, civic virtue, juvenile delinquency, corporal punishment, capital punishment, and war.

"Starship Troopers" won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1960.

Loved the video. Is the book better?

The movie and the book are very different. Better or worse is going to be opinion. The book isn't the action story the movie is. It would take way too long to describe the differences in this comment. Listening to the audiobook won't take too long. It's a relatively short book even as a read.

The book explains his philosophy in greater detail, what happened to Earth and why the gov is the way it is. The movie was done by a retard attempting to make everything look "fascist" and accidentally made it based as fuck.

It's a short book, so I do recommend picking it up some time. I've an old copy of it that I kept after a book purge.

From what I understand, that series is more true to the books than the movie. I haven't had the chance to read the book or watch the series.

Do it. It's a short book.

I don't wanna say that this book made me a Nazi, but it certainly helped lay the fundamentals.

I've listened to it, it was good but obviously technology has changed since then and will significantly affect how any attempt at such a rebellion against the jews will go.

Just finished reading Bolshevism from Moses to Lenin by Hitler's mentor Dietrich Eckart. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that Eckart and Hitler came to essentially the same conclusions about Joseph and Moses that I'd already come to before reading it.

I almost don't want to read the book the movie kinda ruined it in that regard. But a comment here made me think maybe the book is worth a read

Everyone should read more Heinlein. If nothing else, check out his quotes by Lazarus Long.

Hate to say it, but the book is quite boring. It focuses on military strategy and philosophy, but beyond that there isn't much story. I powered through the audio, but it wasn't riveting prose.

It's a fantastic book if those are things you are into.
