All of the above is true. He's only telling half the story though.

Kings would actively invite Jews into the country so they themselves could borrow money. They needed the cash in order to pay their armies for conquest and/or defense. Neighbors who were less tolerant would have a difficult time competing with the aspirations of these kings and would have a difficult time defending themselves. Then those kings would change their minds and eject the Jews.

The best thing I ever did was pay off all my debts. Earned two pensions. And have a retirement fund. No car payments, no credit card debt. I still have a mortgage but the monthly is so low I could collect aluminum cans and make the payment.
