My home doesn't have cable or a connection to broadcast television. The TV is used for a few old movies that we have analyzed for propaganda, and is still barely used anyway. My kids spend more time in church, with books, or out in nature than they will ever spend in front of a screen.

Also, I'd recommend no cellphones until they are pretty close to adulthood and can show that they thoroughly understand the danger. Luckily, we live in a pretty safe area, but if you don't and you want your kids to be able to call you whenever they need, you can still buy old Nokia-style phones that don't have internet.
