I'm quite taken with kick scooters. They are a sociable form of wheel transport - good for riding in crowded places. The only disadvantage of the hard-tyre version is it can be dangerous where the pavement has ridges - you can go arse over tit.

https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/25/23696722/amd-ryzen-z1-z1-extreme-rog-ally

On Friday, we told you how AMD is quietly arming a whole new wave of Steam Deck competitors. But the company’s now saying the quiet part out loud: today, it’s officially announcing the AMD Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme, a pair of 4nm processors specifically aimed at handheld gaming PCs.

The Ryzen Z1 Extreme pairs eight of AMD’s Zen 4 CPU cores and 16 threads with 12 of its RDNA 3 graphics cores as well as 24MB of cache — and promises up to a whopping 8.6 teraflops of raw graphic performance, far closer to the 10.28 teraflops of a Sony PS5 than the 1.6 teraflops you get with a Steam Deck.

2023.08.16 Doomed! 🚨🚨 AMD (Windows update) to force all modern CPUs this week to use CPU math slow-down INCEPTION security patch for a hilarious hacker exploit reported anonymously on most AMD chips, allowing machine takeover by hackers. Slower now! Time to buy NEW 2024 AMD CPUS?🚨     (technology)

Holy shit!

A Grey Hat hacker gave AMD unknown months to make a chip patch, then AMD this week clumsily leaked exploit details to China, Russia, and people like me. AMD/Microsoft/Linux solution this morning is to cripple all chips, and buy new 2024 chips later! :

AMD INCEPTION (divide by 0 trick) : New Vulnerability Affecting Zen,Zen2, Zen3, Zen4 With Big archivePerformance Implications:

https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMD-INCEPTION
https://archive.ph/1Kuj1

TODAY 2023.08.16 AMD Zen 1 too! (AMD lied last week) :
https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMD-Zen-1-Zero-Fix-Again
https://archive.ph/IV6AC

CVE-2023-20569 : https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2023-20569

https://www.amd.com/en/resources/product-security/bulletin/amd-sb-7005.html

Zen,Zen2, Zen3, Zen4 are this morning all screwed, but Zen 1 fixed with simple 0/1 cpu divide every interrupt, not checking EVERY DIVIDE.

The big story is that for months this exploit has left all AMD servers vulnerable due to painful lack of OK solution.

🚨PCs worldwide after 2023.08.16 patching, are about to get dramatically slower.🚨

AMD SALES DEPARTMENT for 2024 products is pleased by the chip bug.

Microsoft and Meta Detail Plans To Combat “Election Disinformation” Which Includes Meme Stamp-Style Watermarks and Reliance on “Fact Checkers”     (reclaimthenet.org)

https://reclaimthenet.org/microsoft-and-meta-detail-plans-to-combat-election-disinformation

And so it begins. In fact, it hardly ever stops – another election cycle in well on its way in the US. But what has emerged these last few years, and what continues to crop up the closer the election day gets, is the role of the most influential social platforms/tech companies.

Pressure on them is sometimes public, but mostly not, as the Twitter Files have taught us; and it is with this in mind that various announcements about combating “election disinformation” coming from Big Tech should be viewed.

Although, one can never discount the possibility that some – say, Microsoft – are doing it quite voluntarily. That company has now come out with what it calls “new steps to protect elections,” and is framing this concern for election integrity more broadly than just the goings-on in the US.
