I'm quite taken with kick scooters. They are a sociable form of wheel transport - good for riding in crowded places. The only disadvantage of the hard-tyre version is it can be dangerous where the pavement has ridges - you can go arse over tit.

Pros

very light
quicker than walking
no cyclist-hate as pedestrians don't feel threatened
much easier to use than a bike in crowded areas
more sociable than bike-riding. As a cyclist one is gloriously aloof from the hoi polloi but with a scooter you're among people which can lead to conversations.
fun
a chick-magnet. Females like baubles and trinkets and are instantly attracted to the polished aluminium of my scooter. They want to touch it and when I show them it has an extendable shaft they giggle - not sure what's so funny.

Cons

Puts a lot of strain on the "standing leg" which can become uncomfortable after long rides. A bike is far easier on the limbs and far more comfortable.
Dangerous if you ignore its limits. A primitive brake. Not smart to go down steep inclines.

Conclusion

Worth getting for short trips to the shop when you'd usually walk and good for public areas where there are lots of people. Can be quite fun.
