So fyi, I'm a developer who just quit his job and actually has the free time to work on this and I am willing to. It would be a big change with lots of bugs to work out but if we pull it off it will massively reduce the number of requests going to voat's servers thereby cutting the hosting costs. In the process the underlying architecture of voat will be unique and more in line with the original vision of the internet.

Plan is instead of hitting the servers/database every time any user makes a request we funnel all of the server hits through "Chad" users who make periodic, intelligent, controlled requests. So these Chad's are basically acting like server proxies and it is they who serve the ordinary users. The ordinary users then serve each other the most recent reads in a mesh network, torrent, TCP/IP kind of thing.

Of course there will be bugs to work out and that's where we would need serious buy in from the voat users to do such a thing. We could make this code optional until the bugs are worked out but you know, it would still be a bumpy ride and everyone would have to be on board with this idea so they don't get pissed off when there are bugs.

So that's my proposal. I'm willing to work on it if ya'll like the idea. The mesh architecture is definitely cool and would make voat stand out compared to reddit, x, etc. who are still doing things in a very top down kind of way. Oh and of course, malicious Chad's and all that.

The other idea I have is simply to switch to Kubernetes so you can scale your server size depending on load. I mean maybe you already have a way of doing that but doing it in Kubernetes makes it more portable.

I don't know if any of you remember how much fun this place was last year between Christmas and New Years! There was a general feeling of happiness and optimism here! We GOATS were having fun! Good Vibes were everywhere! I was kind of anticipating that again this year! I'm not one to share my personal life with others! But, I will say, this has been a devastating year for me personally! I will NOT share details!

I was counting on that comradery we had last year again! I don't know what's happened to this place! THIS was our escape from the insanity of the world! Some of you, are closer to me than some of the people I know IRL. GOATS! Like the song says: "You want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're glad your came!" Folks, We've got to lower the temperature in here! We treat each other like absolute dog-shit! And I'm guilty of it too! There are GOATS here that are going through things, I'm not just talking about me, and they need that support-base that we used to be! I've noticed a hand-full of jackasses here that are immature fucks! They're not happy, and they don't want anybody else here to be happy! In all the years I've been apart of this thing, I've never blocked anyone! This month, I blocked TWO goats, and one of them I really rather like! The other is a dripping cunt! Stupid as fuck, but pontificates like he's Stephen Hawking, or Albert Einstein!

I've also noticed, that we dog-pile on specific GOATS. We shouldn't be doing that in a serious manner, with such extreme force, especially to our woman! Our women should be treated like our kid sisters, they bring value to this place! I don't know about you guys, But I LIKE having the women here! I'm NOT saying that we need to handle them with kid-gloves or anything! But let's show some respect! One of you, and you know who you are, said something extremely perverted and disgusting, to one of or gals recently! It was the very depths of low class!

This site was great because we bonded into a community! We are the "trash" that nobody else wants! We're cut differently! There is no other place in the free world, nor on the Internet, where we legitimately fit in or belong! That's certainly true for me! Let's not drive this place into the ground, and lose a GREAT thing! Trust me when I tell you, You WILL miss this place when it's gone!

If you know you said something you shouldn't have to a fellow goat, you should apologize! We are Captains of our own Destiny! You get to decide if this ship, the USS Upgoat, sails mightily upon the ocean, or becomes a relic of the deep!

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS THING?

When I saw it through the envelope, I thought it was a silver dollar, but apparently, it is some sort of Upgoat version of an AA token.

It feels like it might be a refrigerator magnet, but I held it up to several surfaces and it doesn’t adhere.

Tracking device? My phone already does that and everyone pretty knows who I am and where to find me. The backside says “Fringe GG” which the sender pointed out with writing on the inside of the envelope is a sort of anagram for “Nigger.”

Anyway, if someone wants to add to this thread or hit me up on PMs, I’d be interested in hearing more.
