https://www.coindesk.com/learn/2021/02/17/what-is-a-flash-loan/

TLDR: It's a contract of contracts, one of which is an uncollaterized loan typically followed by a sequence of trades which all must occur atomically (in one transaction) on the blockchain.

More technical breakdown from aave, the leading choice for flash loans:

Custody of client assets
In a May 2022 Form 10-Q filing, Coinbase stated that "because custodially held crypto assets may be considered to be the property of a bankruptcy estate, in the event of a bankruptcy, the crypto assets we hold in custody on behalf of our customers could be subject to bankruptcy proceedings and such customers could be treated as our general unsecured creditors".[124][125][126]

I had an old Etrade account from an old job that used it for distributing equity rewards. I left some funds there that I use for experimental trades and market whims... recently I got interested in what MicroStrategy was doing so I said fuck it and moved some funds into MSTR and as a hedge moved some others into a BTC ETF.

I kid you not, Etrade mailed me a fucking 104 page long info packet telling me how risky crypto is. LOL. I bought into MSTR @300

https://www.zerohedge.com/crypto/bybit-exchange-hacked-over-14-billion-steth-moved

"Crypto prices tumbled this morning - most notably BTC and ETH - on reports that cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has reportedly been hacked for over $1.4 billion in liquid-staked Ether and MegaETH (mETH)."

Title is the top comment, that's probably not as funny to cryptographers. Aren't the "cold wallets" touted as being secure?

USDC Stablecoin Nears Parity With USD After Fed's Bailout Announcement     (news.bitcoin.com)

https://news.bitcoin.com/usdc-stablecoin-nears-parity-with-usd-after-feds-bailout-announcement/

The stablecoin USDC has nearly regained parity with the U.S. dollar after rising just above $0.99 on March 12, 2023, at 7:20 p.m. Eastern Time. The stablecoin jumped back to the $0.99 range after the U.S. Federal Reserve revealed it would bail out depositors of California’s Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and New York’s Signature Bank. Following the Fed announcement, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said on Twitter that the company would rely on BNY Mellon to settle the process of minting and redemption.
