China kicked all their crypto miners out for over consumption and they moved to the USA. They are using about 2-2.5% of the total US grid power. Texas has paid them 10's of millions of dollars to stop mining during outages and other peak times. China had a lot of miners since they make the hardware there and got them for cheap.

Here's the article about the tax. They are actively tracking down all miners as we speak. I heard Biden is actually planning to shut mining down and fine anyone who doesn't stop thousands per day. This would also slow Bitcoin transactions until the miners relocate.
