(JTA) — Spike Lee has announced that he is re-editing the final episode of his new HBO documentary series about New York following reports of early media screenings that criticized the Oscar-winning filmmaker for prominently featuring a conspiracy theorist who has entertained antisemitic ideas.

“New York Epicenters: 9/11-2021½,” a four-part documentary examining the character of the city in the 21st century, began airing Sunday on HBO.

In its original cut, the final episode, which had been scheduled to air on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, featured extensive interviews with members of the conspiracy group Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth.

Lee did not specify whether he would cut the segment featuring the group or what other changes might be in the works.

“I’m Back In The Editing Room And Looking At The Eighth And Final Chapter Of ‘NYC EPICENTERS 9/11-2021½,’” Lee said in a statement released by HBO and provided to Variety. “I Respectfully Ask You To Hold Your Judgement Until You See The FINAL CUT.”

The announcement follows articles in The New York Times and Slate about Lee’s flirtation with 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Slate in its article critical of Lee focused on the interview space devoted to Richard Gage, the leader of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth. At a 2012 event, Gage appeared to endorse the suggestion by another participant that Israel was behind the terrorist attack. He regularly appears on podcasts where conspiracies about Jews and the Holocaust are common.

The Times, meanwhile, quoted Lee as saying that he still had “questions” about what caused the Twin Towers to collapse after they were hit by airplanes, alluding to an alleged government cover-up.

“Little Amal” is the name given to an enormous puppet that is currently traveling through Europe. Its journey began on July 27 in Gaziantep, southern Turkey (near Syria), and its final stop will be Manchester, England, for a total of 8,000 km (4,971 miles).

Amal — the name is Arabic for “hope” — is supposed to represent a nine-year-old refugee girl in search of her mother. The puppet is meant to stand for the alleged masses of displaced minors fleeing from wars and persecution. It is 3.5 meters in height (almost 12 feet) and bears uncanny resemblance to the Celtic-pagan sacrificial wicker cage of the extremely lewd 1973 horror movie The Wicker Man. More on that in a minute.

Originally Amal was to arrive at the Manchester International Festival in July, where she was going to be “the centrepiece of a large-scale participatory event,” according to The Guardian. Thankfully, that didn’t work out, as the puppet got off to a late start. The Manchester jamboree is a bizarro event that includes utterly perverted stuff, so we won’t link to it. Suffice it to say that you can find such “artistic contributions” there as a “queer gardening simulation”, so let’s just move on.

The puppet’s most recent sighting was in Bari, Italy. On Friday, Sep. 10, it is scheduled to arrive in Rome, where it will receive a cheerful welcome in the Vatican, as the Italian edition of Vatican News is happy to report at some length. At 10:30 am local time, the Jesuit “Cardinal” Michael Czerny, Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, as well as Rome’s auxiliary “Bp.” Benoni Ambarus will greet the monstrous doll and the people accompanying it.

This will be followed by the testimony of a refugee minor hosted in a Caritas facility in Rome. The young participants in what has also been conceived as a moment of celebration will then be able to take part in a workshop for the construction of a kite, promoted by ASCS (Scalabrinian Agency for Cooperative Development). The Agesci Roma 51 Scouts, meanwhile, will build a tent, as Abraham did at the Oaks of Mamre. The event will end with a snack offered to all the children and a farewell to Amal, who will continue her journey through Europe.

The New South Wales Chief Health Officer made the alarming comments during a recent press conference.

“We need to get used to being vaccinated with COVID vaccines for the future … I can’t see COVID is not going to be with us forever,” said Chant said during a press conference last week.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — In a Rosh Hashanah call Thursday with a thousand rabbis across the denominational spectrum, President Joe Biden rededicated his presidency to combating hate and extremism and called on the Senate to swiftly confirm his nominee for antisemitism monitor, Deborah Lipstadt.

In the afternoon webinar, Biden was asked how he intended to combat a spike in antisemitic incidents. He noted that the attorney general, Merrick Garland, was hiring staff to coordinate the prosecution of hate crimes and that his administration was tracking extremist groups in what he called “America’s first-ever comprehensive effort to take on the threat of domestic terrorism.”

“We’re not going to stand for our fellow Americans being intimidated and attacked for who they are, what they believe, and that’s across the board,” Biden said. “Sometimes reform is preceded by serious serious breach of decency and people see it.”

Of the 28 Jesuit universities in the United States, 27 are requiring vaccination for students — and many other Catholic institutions are following suit. This raises concerns for Catholic students who have to weigh their moral and health concerns against their desire to attend in-person classes this fall.

As schools close in on reconvening around Labor Day, the number of vaccine mandates continues to climb. As of Aug. 12, 720 colleges and universities — out of nearly 4,000 nationwide — are requiring vaccination, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

As Church Militant reported last month, about 50% of the institutions voluntarily reporting their vaccine policy for the fall are private. Of those private institutions, roughly 20% are Catholic. Boston College, Creighton, Fordham, Georgetown, the Loyolas (Chicago, Maryland, New Orleans), Mount St. Mary's in Maryland and Notre Dame are just a few of the Catholic institutions requiring vaccination.

Not for the first time, the US Treasury has just gone and frozen the US held assets of Afghanistan’s central bank, the Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB). Chief among these assets are 1731 old gold bars (just less than 22 tonnes) supposedly stored in the gold vault of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in Manhattan under 33 Liberty Street.

These 1,731 gold bars (if they even still exist) were deposited with the Fed by the Afghan central bank in 1939, and are old US Assay Office gold bars that have cracks, fissures, holes and other imperfections.

While the US Treasury has not yet released an official statement on blocking the Afghan central bank assets, the Washington Post on Tuesday 17 August broke the story that a few days previously on Sunday 15 August, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Treasury department under the direction of Janet Yellen had made the decision to execute the freeze.

Among central banks of the world, the DAB has always been one of the more transparent when it comes to divulging information about it’s gold reserve holdings, and looking at the DAB’s annual financial statements, you can see why.

In the latest annual financial statements of the DAB for the year ended 30 Qaws of solar year 1399 (which is 20 December 2020), note 7.1 to the financial statements states that the DAB holds:

“703,004.944 fine troy ounces of gold in bar from held at the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), New York as the Bank’s international reserve.”

This 703,004.944 ozs is approximately 21.87 tonnes of gold.

However, note 7.1 of the 2020 accounts goes on to say that even though the Afghan central bank’s gold bars have a minimum gold purity of at least 99.5%, they are not London Good Delivery bars because the dimensions of the bars do not comply with Good Delivery gold bar dimensions, and critically, some of the bars contain cracks, fissures, holds and other imperfections.

In short, the Afghan central bank’s gold at the New York Fed looks to be a pile of old US Assay Office gold bars...

...How long has the Afghan central bank held an unchanging amount of 703,004.944 ozs of gold at the NY Fed in the form of 1,731 old US Assay Office gold bars? Startlingly, this question is also answered by looking at the DAB’s 2004 financial statements, also in Note 4 (see above), which reveals that the Afghan central bank gold was deposited with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 1939, which is 82 year ago!

MESA, Ariz. — Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) joined the East Valley Human Trafficking Taskforce (EVHTTF) on a two-day “Buyer Reduction” or sting operation, which resulted in 18 arrests.

The operation was led by the Mesa Police Department. The Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the Scottsdale and Tempe Police departments also participated in the investigation.

On Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, law enforcement staged in the area of South Country Club Drive and US 60 in Mesa, Arizona, to conduct online chats that offered prostitution services in an effort to identify and apprehend customers of sex trafficking victims. All 18 men arrested over the two days solicitated adult prostitution, and one was also charged of attempted sex conduct with a minor, child prostitution with a minor under the age of 15, money laundering and prostitution.
