The other option can be jail, and keep in mind all sorts of people are there - most are such, that here in Europe they would not even got a ticket from police, just a slap on the shoulder, but some are nasty deranged criminals, you can get to watch TV with some murderer or pedophile, and not even knowing it until you will get out. Not a nice experience. I'd rather spent time with bunch of AA group, then for instance with some horrible criminals.
Also, if you take any medications for anything, jail can be a bad news. You might get something from jail nurse which you will not be sure if it's what you need, well even doubt is bad enough, let alone if this suspicion is true.
For what I have seen there is a whole system feeding off dudes who will be violating probation or some insane PO orders, like having meetings too far from where you live but not able to drive - I seen this exactly before, it's a trap for somehow violate such rules, and thus to pay more money and be even more in trouble...
