Thanks jews! (As someone who was able to take latin in a country town high school in the mountains of WV in the late 70's. You could also take Greek. Our schools French, Spanish, German teachers were all native speakers.)
Latin was a choice at my highschool in the 90's. I took French in middle school and it was actually taught by a lady named Mrs. French. That was the first class I ever failed lol. Fuckin hated that shit. I got a C in Spanish in highschool, barely, but now I can tell where a beaner is from by hearing them speak.
What ever happened to East Virginia? There had to have been an East Virginia at one time…, is she buried in the outhouse? Or did you mill her bones to dust to bake cookies.?? Someone needs to have a forensic study of your pickle pantry…., yup
Note that the above is related; knowing one of the major precursor languages to English helps improve writing and vocabulary, and those who take optional language courses like these were more likely to go to secondary school.
Meanwhile nowadays colleges are happy to admit people for interpretive dance degrees financed by government-insured loans and these people need to be able to "write gud" to produce plausibly good enough work to continue long enough to get through all four years.

Slippery can hardly describe how steep is the slope
Butter up your offspring with a history of lies, strive for extra distance
Resistance denied, no slowing no glide, will he survive?….. nope
