Japanese cars of the 1970s were dogshit as far as quality. They didn't get their act together until the late 1980s

My 1973 Toyota Carola ran and ran. Never needed repairs. Meanwhile, all US brands were overpriced fuel guzzlers needing regular maintenance and costly repairs. Finally sold the Toyota in 1982 - and regretted it.
