Well, would you look at that! It is Friday again already. Man these weeks go by fast in the summer. It is time for the Friday Night Guitar Thread. You all know what this is by now. It is time for you to play us a tune. Music is for sharing. Get in here. Show us your musical chops!

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link.. If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello everybody. This week has been a exciting one in my world, at least there was plenty of excitement here.

This might be my favorite yet. I say that about all of yours.

Thanks

I would have liked to play it just a bit faster, but I couldnt do the bassline faster without fucking it up!

Dinner is a bit late today, so I'll be a bit of a slacker and I'll return soon - probably...

So, this track is from early 2019. I don't really remember the motivation but I think it had something to do with using some classical techniques with the blues. Before you ask, yes it's just one guitar. No, it's not mixed with a 2nd guitar.

Blues Improv (David only)

Damned right, I can play that. ;-)

Very cool, I'm about to jam with you on this.

Have fun with it. It's D major, if you're curious.

I find relative major for everything, the opposite of Pat Martino. He thinks everything relative minor. I think I've got that covered though, lol.

I suppose it's sort of a matter of perspective and limited only to western (not country and western) music.

If you dive deep enough, you'll get into the microtonal realm. There are also some other ways of looking at music outside of the way we view it in the west. Music in the east doesn't fit our listening habits (more often than not) but is interesting in and of itself.

If you ever get the chance to play with a microtonal guitar, assuming you've not done so already, it'll either piss you off to no end or it will open up a bunch of new ways to think about music.

I find most folks that dive into a microtonal guitar give it up pretty quickly and resent their purchase.

Yeah, I've posted my fretless guitar stuff many times here. I was in an Indian band for awhile in Austin, it was the hardest shit I've ever played. Alot of free jazz guys use "microtonal" to justify playing shitty and out of tune though.

Well hell yeah~!

That was simply awesome.

I thought you might approve. LOL

only thing I didn't like is it sounded like it continued on when it faded out and ended. I wanted it to continue to go on!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 16 hoursJun 14, 2025 16:23:34 ago (+2/-0)

I like to fade out while the music goes on. It leaves something on the table.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 11 hoursJun 14, 2025 20:58:10 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah. It makes it sound like the music went on and on

This is one I've been scared to click on for years, I remembered it being horrible. It's not as bad as I thought. We never got past the rehearsal stage of this, it took forever for the violin player to get this far. I didn't want a guitar solo either, but I could never get a good solo out of him. Recorded on a 4 track in my apartment living room. Oh, and it ceases to be us live about halfway through because of the solo thing.

Possibly useful for somebody. Tremolo picking chords:

I have that very same Picasso old man with guitar poster that you have there behind you!

The first one was interesting. I enjoyed listening to that.

I don't think I have even had a need to pick quite like that, but who knows, now maybe I will.

I miss that apartment, I lived 4 lifetimes in 7 years there. It nearly killed me with mold at the end.

The other night this drummer friend of mine stopped by and said that he had just been fired from two bands and he had his drum kit with him and he was wondering if he could set it up and jam with me. Then his ankle bracelet thing got caught on the leg of one of my kitchen table chairs some how and it came off his leg...

So he calls the jail or whatever the fuck place he has to call when something like that happens. and they said there's not technicians on duty right now, that someone will call him in the morning and tell him what to do or where to go to get it repaired or replaced.

So we went back out into the studio to jam, he was just playing my drums, and my fucking effects pedal fell off the amp and broke the power cord and therefore did not work.

So he went to go sit down by his girlfriend and I played this here song.

At the end of the song is when the action really started, that's when he got arrested
