I think most people overlook the humor in punk music. It's not all seriousness and righteous anger. John Lydon can be a riot, and a lot of bands were pretty tongue in cheek.

You nailed it. Punk was fun!
I was living in London in 1977 and went to many concerts including one with the Sex Pistols. Well, I guess I'll follow this with my favorite band, Alberto y Los Trios Paranoias. On stage, the lead singer would stab himself to death in every show. Great fun. Will post the EP version by them PLUS their banned song called Fuck You!
And special thanks to BernieSunders for the motivation. Love your post, which I'd never heard before.
I WISH I'd known about this concert in 1980. It was the 5/4/80 performance of PIL at Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, and had I known about it, I coulda gone!
Just imagine it, the opening acts were The Plugz, "some Mariachi band" and the Kipper Kids. This was a line-up designed by someone with a really demented sense of humor. If John Lydon didn't have a hand in it, I'd be surprised.
The Kipper Kids are a one-of-a-kind creation that defies description or even belief. All I can tell you is just read this article.
They're about as avant garde as performance art gets while still being entertaining. I personally think they're funny as hell. I think their best piece was on "Mondo Beyondo".

Imagine them doing this before an audience of screaming punks. Absolutely surreal.
