It is time once again for the Friday Night Guitar Thread. Lets make this place better with some music made by us the users. Pick your guitar and play. Lets hear it. Or just listen in.

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link.. If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Had no idea this existed, I don't remember coming up with anything lately. That's the extent of my chording abilities at the moment, 4 notes way high on the neck.

one man wolfpack

Another ICS song with the unplayable first fretless.

Been playing around with this, don't know what to do with it. Sorry about the shitass audio quality.

Don't EVER apologize for audio quality! Most of my shit sounds like it was recorded by a moron with a Walkman and Radio Shack mic(this is not far from reality).

You've got the seed of a good song here, are you a singer?

Nice!

Here is a song that my buddy Chris and I made up a few years back that hasn't been shared too often.

Coffee

Nice. I didn't figure out how to play with it right until the end.

Its two guitars and we play different things lol

It took a minute to click. Regular major/minor sounded shitty. I should've posted me jamming to it without asking like I did last week.

I'm not going to be here all that long. I've got stuff to do and I need to do some of it tomorrow. But, I did want to share something special.

This is something from the deep archives and includes some special guests...

Yes - Roundabout (EH #2 #4 #5; J K; TB #1 #3 P & B; Special Guest on Flute)

Well, one of the guests was J and the other was a member of the band we were in at the time. My memory says it was recorded at my house (the flute part) but it may have been recorded at her house and just sent to us via email.

Whoa!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 3 points 3 daysMay 30, 2025 21:02:37 ago (+3/-0)

That one is from the deep archives. I was rooting through the archives yesterday and decided to upload this one. There are still tons of tracks not yet uploaded to my own sharing site.

https://share.fngt.gq is the address. It's easy enough to navigate.

I got tired of upload sites claiming I violated copyright for getting too close to the original. I couldn't possibly use a mainstream site without getting copyright strikes. That's the penalty we pay for making faithful covers, I suppose.

I could probably get away with it on YouTube but I don't know how to edit videos and I have a high standard of production, so that's not an option unless someone decides to produce them for us. Given that I'd have to pay for that, it's just not worth it to me.

What is worth it to me is hosting it myself, paying for my own hosting and bandwidth. That's alright by me. It's not that expensive and I don't have much work to do. I just upload the track and it adds it automatically.

The new C8 ZR1 is out. It's got over 1,100 HP. They're not even expensive when compared with other cars with those specs. I will be buying at least one. I might buy two so that I can keep one in pristine condition and wait for it to increase in value.

Given my repuation and collection, I should be fine and get an allotment. I shouldn't even have to pay anything over the sticker value. Thisi s definitely a car I want.

This is another I've always wanted to play from a record that completely changed my life. I have friends that won't listen to the "popular" songs like this. I'll never get that. "Wish you were here", stairway, back in black. It's still like the 1st time when I hear those.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 3 daysMay 31, 2025 12:31:06 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah, those songs are uploaded to my sharing site. LOL There's a bunch of stuff uploaded - and a bunch of stuff I haven't uploaded to this server.

This server is one that I control. My recordings are too close to the original recordings and they hit me with copyright strikes and delete my files. We had one really great site for uploading our music but that site closed. I sent them donations and even offered to pay for the entire hosting but they didn't want to deal with it anymore. So, I tried to buy the site. They wouldn't even sell me the site.

That's why I have my own sharing site. It's pretty basic, but I don't care. It works and it's simple enough for anyone to use. I just use SFTP to upload my music. I put it in the directory that it belongs in and the script does the rest of it, making it a useful enough site. As it sits right now, it's just under 1.5 GB in size - for all the uploaded songs. So, that's not too bad.

Anyhow, I love doing covers. Yeah, I can write my own material but I enjoy covers. They come pre-equipped with emotional attachments. People know and love the songs already, so I try to faithfully recreate them. It's not easy to get things so close to the original that you get nailed for copyright. I see that as a sign of accomplishment.

I've gotten the most ridiculous copyright shit from YouTube. Most from INSTRUCTIONAL videos where I'm showing people how to play shit. Remember the library music jam i posted awhile back? Public domain, copyright free music that I'm improvising over. Still got the strike.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 3 daysMay 31, 2025 12:59:19 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah, I don't want to deal with that shit. I never did the YouTube thing, but I tried pretty much every other free music-sharing site AND some paid options. I was more than happy to pay for a good interface and for hosting. I don't mind paying for services, especially if they're good.

That said, I haven't looked up any of the free sites lately. There might be something new out there. I've jused used my own sharing site for years. I just looked and it looks like I've been using my own sharing site since October 2020. So, almost five years.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 3 daysMay 31, 2025 13:14:25 ago (+1/-0)

They all suck but SoundCloud is the most acceptable. I won't even click a bandcamp link.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 2 daysMay 31, 2025 20:05:48 ago (+0/-0)

I just use my own. It works out well enough. I don't actually care what it costs me, within reason. At least I'm the one that's in control of my data.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 3 daysMay 30, 2025 21:53:04 ago (+3/-0)

Hell yeah thats awesome!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 daysMay 31, 2025 12:20:24 ago (+1/-0)

It looks like it was recorded in February 2020. At least that's what the metadata has as the earliest modification date.

You would have likely heard it once back then and maybe never again. Back then, we were making a whole lot of new content. We'd have a new track every week, rarely two new tracks per week.

I saw it in my 'deep archives' and knew that it had to be uploaded and shared. It had been a long time and by now you'd probably not even remember hearing it before (given the rarity and time involved).

That said, I'm pretty glad that I found these deep archive files. I have a giant .zip file that COF made for me before he died. It was every music file I'd ever shared with him. That is a lot of music!

So, yeah, I'm glad to have noticed the external disk had a copy of my deep archives. LOL I've brought some of the tracks out from cold storage and I'll likely continue doing so.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 2 daysMay 31, 2025 20:20:39 ago (+1/-0)

That one sounded excellent. Great job on that!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 23 hoursJun 2, 2025 19:11:39 ago (+1/-0)

I'll have to dig into the archives again this week. We won't have anything new. Well, it's unlikely that we'll have anything new. It's very unlikely.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 1 dayJun 2, 2025 09:14:36 ago (+1/-0)

I've used youtube as an external harddrive/good idea repository since it came out. The problem with that, is I never labeled anything by key or description. So it's 100s of ideas going back that many years, all named "Qzr_h" and shit.

Aside from that, my "archives" are 4 or 5 harddrives, a couple of voice recorders, and a bag full of cassettes I need to go through.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 23 hoursJun 2, 2025 19:14:13 ago (+0/-0)

Other than what was done professionally, I didn't do much in the way of recording until fairly recently - as in less than the past decade. I just never really cared about it. I played for money, more or less. I kept playing after I no longer needed that paltry amount of money but I was still very much a 'gun for hire' type of deal.

So, I never really got into recording my own stuff. I figured I could always recreate it when needed.
