Usually consider one of the most beautiful cars made and until recently was one of the most highly valued antique cars. But the recent antique car auctions have seen all of these 60s and '70s and even '80s error cars suddenly dropped tremendously in value. And of course that's because the 70 and 80 and 90 year olds who thought these cars were so cool in their youth are all dying off and selling their cars and today's youth remembers cars from the 90s and the 2000s of the two tens and that's what they want to spend their big money on if they've got it. So I think one of these e types just sold for like six or $10,000 I can't remember at one of the auctions but it was a bloodbath at these auctions. All these formally very valuable cars like Aston Martin's from James Bond type movies and things just tanked in value.

That car is out of my league - irrespective of the price.
The wife and I are talking about buying a Bentley Flying Spur.
A 2023 or 2024, not even vintage.
The car makes too much sense on paper but I don't know that we're going to be able to get past the social positioning of the brand.
It's weird how shit like that gets in your head, yeah?

With all due respect, why?

I personally drive a very basic Asian car with a straight drive. Comfy, good mileage and cheap parts. Nothing fancy. Nothing on the wheel. No screens. No Bluetooth. Shit stereo but I don't use it anyway. Jus me a speedometer and a tach.

Is the Bentley a plug in hybrid model?

I'm not aware of their social position can ya tell me?

Yes I know. I, even though strongly advised not to, bought a car because I had to have it.

I have a list of things I want out of a car, and the Bentley satisfies most of them.

But to your point, I fully agree with the concept of buying and running a vehicle made before the turn of the century - in fact I've not yet ruled it out.
Thing is, I really like cars so if I were going that route, I'd rather own a vintage restomod so I don't have to worry about the preservation of an asset - there are many available - it's just the nuances of owning a one-off that make it complex.
As for the Bentley, I'm disinterested in the hybrid V8, I'd prefer to stick with the W12.

Regarding your question about the vehicle's pedigree and the inference of those who might own one, I think you know exactly what the social implications of owning a vehicle of prestige may be; so why ask?
That's what leftists do - be better.
If that's your car in the picture, well done you! Be proud of your acquisition, not defensive about it.

I know of what you speak.

I've also thought of old Bentlys and rocyces as a car you ride in not drive. Have muscle in the front while ya make deals in the back on properties etc.

You're right in a way. I see a Bentley I'm gonna assume it's driven by a gangster. So much money they need to bring their bar with them and custom umbrellas. "It's all money son."

No different than a Lamborghini. Imo.

Needless to say I like you

Don't hear that last bit much on the internet, thank you.

Bentlys dont hold value. Get an old Rolls.

Looking for a daily driver.
Most of the value lost is in the first few years, roughly 56%.
It went from a joke to a serious consideration and it turns out Volkswagen dealerships can service them.

DD for the win. Won't attract law. Cheap parts.

Take you and the miss out in the Bentley to cabins for a week.

This is not shade. Or hateful.

Yes. Britain made some beautiful cars. Reliability on the other hand....

My sister bought a MGB in S.E.Texas,the fucker overheated practically every spring/summer.

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 2 weeksMay 26, 2025 17:00:35 ago (+1/-0)

Kinda reminds me of summer. My Nordic in me sun turns me red fast.

Some guy asked me but isn't there snow there all the time? Ffs Rick.

Needless to say that sucks and over heating can serious fuck up a car's engine internals.

[ - ] xmasskull 1 point 2 weeksMay 26, 2025 17:09:12 ago (+1/-0)

Heat gauge sense: By the time it hits red,the engine is dead!

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 2 weeksMay 26, 2025 17:34:51 ago (+1/-0)

I'm sure that's where some of my problems with my rotary started. It was pissing coolant. Heat can easily warp the rotor housings causing compression issues. I was basically stopping every so often to fill it up with coolant getting it to a good shop. Radiator had developed a hole likely from road debris. New performance radiator and silicone hoses for the fix.

Winning!

Lol something like that. I'll never look at owning a sports car the same. Saw a guy say if he got $500k he'd buy a Lamborghini. I thought well there goes your money. Taxes, maintenance fees, gas, insurance, scrapping something on the road and damaging a critical component. Rebuilding parts. There's only two types of people that buy these cars. 1, is an investment. They drain it and keep it in a climate controlled environment and sell years later for a profit. Or those that have more money than years in their life. The latter usually drive basic cars as well.
