Grill grate cleaning

submitted by Eric_Fartwell to Food 1 weekMay 26, 2025 15:55:12 ago (+2/-2)     (Food)

Am I the only one who treats my grill grates as a dish and scrubs them with soap and water after every use? Cleaning them with just fire and a wire brush is fucking gross. WTF is wrong with you? Would you just blow on a fork and wipe it against your jeans and let the next person use it? It's a fucking cooking surface you animals.

Stop being a prissy, missy

Do you wash your underwear?

[ - ] observation1 3 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 17:10:56 ago (+3/-0)

Do you shit on your grill?

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 17:39:49 ago (+1/-0)

No. Do you shit in your underwear? Who mentioned shit?

[ - ] observation1 2 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:30:21 ago (+2/-0)*

Not on purpose, anyway. You never get skid marks? Good for you.

Do you rub your nuts on your grill? Do you fart on your grill? Do have wet dreams on your grill?

You were comparing underwear to a grill, not me.

[ - ] 2Drunk 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 20:57:17 ago (+1/-0)

Well your last one did sound a little suspect, Mr. Eric_Fartwell.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 5 daysJun 3, 2025 14:19:46 ago (+0/-0)

I'll admit you got me. That legitimately made me laugh.

NO!! Leave that goodness on there. Its flavor enhancer.

Dumbfuck, the heat from the next fire will kill off anything left behind.
Don’t be a neurotic woman.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:04:49 ago (+1/-0)

...I clean mine.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 2 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:06:02 ago (+2/-0)

With a brush, right? That’s all you need.

[ - ] Gowithit 2 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:10:41 ago (+2/-0)

No like take them to the sink clean.

I've seen other people's grills all loaded down with shit and it does affect how it cooks after awhile. I like my things to last and work.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:11:46 ago (+0/-0)

This... Why the fuck wouldn't you.

[ - ] Sector2 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:26:08 ago (+1/-0)

Doesn't the brush and scraper take it down to bare metal, then the next fire carbonizes any remaining particles?

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 5 daysJun 3, 2025 14:22:13 ago (+0/-0)

Maybe but I mean, my grates still have the factory ceramic coating and look brand new. My grill plate is seasoned and literally shines. I guess you can have a grill that just looks like shit but mine looks clean and "maintained". You can have a car and never wash it too. I prefer mine clean not just passable.

[ - ] Sector2 0 points 5 daysJun 3, 2025 23:46:52 ago (+0/-0)

I don't think I've ever seen a used grill in the condition you describe. Same with the "factory ceramic coating". I have a small grill somewhere I used just 5 or 6 years ago. Burning charcoal goes just under a grill made of round stainless steel rods. Those haven't been shiny and new in 20 years. Scraping them down to bare metal then carbonizing anything remaining is fine with me.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:07:28 ago (+1/-0)*

Sure, you don't NEED to wipe your ass after you take a shit either but you know, it's the human thing to do.

Note to self... TheOriginal1Icemonkey is a very angry, small little man. Good to know. Not to mention, trying to frame NOT being a lazy bitch into being a bitch... Somehow. Idiot.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:05:59 ago (+0/-0)*

Why is cleanliness of cooking surfaces a less manly thing? You sound like a lazy nigger. Do you wash your plates before reusing them?

[ - ] Sector2 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:29:43 ago (+1/-0)

You reuse your plates?

[ - ] Gowithit 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:34:34 ago (+0/-0)*

My mother in law would rinse off plastic disposable plates and call it good.

I've also seen her just rinse off knives and put them in the drainer.

Speaking of...@eric_fartwell

Were you around for the "do you wash your bread knife after using it" debacle?

This website is the COVID birth zone.

[ - ] HelenHighwater 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:32:02 ago (+0/-0)

As a neurotic woman, I scrape mine clean, if I need it really clean, I use foil - shiny side down- for a while. The heat incinerates everything. Then I clean, while still hot, with a high smoke point oil.

This has nothing to do with ass wiping, and more to do with the nature of grease laminating on the grates, creating a nonstick surface.

[ - ] observation1 2 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:07:09 ago (+2/-0)

If that's your thing, get a Weber with this style grate:

It will change your life

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:08:52 ago (+0/-0)

I mean I have a $150 pit boss and I just keep it clean. I dunno what the problem is with that.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:15:00 ago (+0/-0)

I forgot the most important part

Dude, you have two, give me one!

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:15:40 ago (+0/-0)

Sure but you're still not cleaning anything.

[ - ] observation1 2 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:23:53 ago (+2/-0)*

You don't own a cast iron pan, do you? I can tell by your belief in germs surviving fire that this type of pan is incompatible.

The round grate I linked to, along with a scraper, should deal with 99.99% of your concern.

Here's a metal one if you don't like nylon.

When did I ever mention germs? There is more to cleanliness than germs.

[ - ] Love240 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:12:18 ago (+1/-0)

It's implied in the title; "cleaning".

Being a pedantic prick doesn't endear you to anyone here.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 1 weekMay 27, 2025 05:33:50 ago (+0/-0)

I'll cry myself to sleep.

[ - ] TheSimulacra 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:56:40 ago (+1/-0)

Do you use soap and water on your cast iron pan?

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 5 daysJun 3, 2025 14:25:03 ago (+0/-0)

I do because it doesn't affect the seasoning I've layed down. It's bullet proof. Soap and water won't hurt it in any way.

[ - ] 2Drunk 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 20:55:10 ago (+1/-0)

If it was real soap made from jews I wouldn't complain. But you're likely using that store bought shit filled with thousands of harmful chemicals.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:01:01 ago (+0/-0)

Fats don't harbor bacteria. So just like with a cast iron skillet you don't need to scrub it clean. The fats actually prevent the metal from rusting and prevent the metal from there for disintegrating into your food. So it's really better to leave the fats on the grill.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] -1 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:03:14 ago (+0/-1)

Keeping it clean also prevents it from rusting. Your logic is invalid. My grill grates are far from disintigrating, they look factory fresh. It's ok to just admit you're too lazy to keep your grill clean. No judgement.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:17:36 ago (+0/-0)

It's so funny that everyone is getting so angry and bent out of shape about this post. It was meant to be tongue in cheek but in true voat fashion it devolved into insults and hatered. Congratuation goats. You're terrible people.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:27:32 ago (+1/-0)

Were you around for the "Do you wash your hands after using the bathroom" debate? 😨

Conclusion: don't shake hands with half the people in here.

[ - ] xmasskull 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:44:29 ago (+1/-0)

After? Why? Always wash them before you tinkle.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 1 point 1 weekMay 26, 2025 17:42:11 ago (+1/-0)

I can believe it.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 23:27:22 ago (+0/-0)*

Who has a sink big enough for a grate? Do you clean it the bath tub, you freak!?

(Said tongue in cheek)

Seriously though. You cant clean a grate in 95% of kitchen sinks. Unless you dont value getting black crud all over your kitchen. Better to scrape it outside where it belongs. Half the point of grilling is you keep the mess outside. Otherwise, just cook on your stovetop.

[ - ] Gowithit 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 23:38:15 ago (+0/-0)

its not the size of the rack that matters it how you use it!

also I learned last year that a grill can be an extension of your kitchen. People should really get rid of the either or mentality between kitchen or grilling.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 23:44:17 ago (+0/-0)

Do both but gotta save the large cookoffs for outside

[ - ] Sector2 0 points 4 daysJun 4, 2025 11:39:56 ago (+0/-0)

I could fit my whole grill in the sink if I removed the handles.

[ - ] xmasskull 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 16:42:59 ago (+0/-0)

The next barbeque fire you build will burn off ALL the old drippings, therefore sterilizing (by heat & flame) the grill surface

[ - ] Hobama 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:31:45 ago (+0/-0)

Mine is cast iron so no soap. I only ever clean it if it’s got a bunch of shit stick to it. The fire of a long smoke cleans everything perfectly.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:42:37 ago (+0/-0)

use oven cleaner, its faster

[ - ] TheSimulacra 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:57:28 ago (+0/-0)

This is the important thing you have to say after being here for two weeks?
Fuck off faggot, were full.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 0 points 5 daysJun 3, 2025 14:26:00 ago (+0/-0)

Eat shit fuckface. I'm not going anywhere. I've been here longer than you. You think this is my first account? LOL! It's prolly my first account in 3 years but I've been here from the start.

[ - ] MaryXmas 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 20:14:37 ago (+0/-0)

It isn't the germs, those will be dead. It is the carcinogens that I dislike.

[ - ] SteppingRazor 0 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 23:05:32 ago (+0/-0)

I use a Kona brush with no bristles. Dip it in water and brush it on a hot grill and it works great.
https://www.kushpaint.com/products/kona-grill-brushes

Sanitation isn’t an issue since the fire kills anything, but I like a clean grill because I don’t want food from a previous session burnt onto whatever I’m cooking now.

[ - ] BushChuck5002 -1 points 1 weekMay 26, 2025 18:41:06 ago (+0/-1)

Get it red hot, and dump it in cold water.

All the shit instantly gone.

[ - ] Eric_Fartwell [op] 1 point 5 daysJun 3, 2025 14:30:16 ago (+1/-0)

Is that your theory with your penis too?

[ - ] BushChuck5002 -1 points 4 daysJun 4, 2025 08:20:56 ago (+0/-1)

Possibly the stupidest thing, besides your username, written on this page.

That means a lot coming from you.
