I was already gradually eliminating alternate picking before my hands went to shit, unintentionally. I was just playing more like that. Now my goal is to get as close to eliminating it entirely as possible. I've only been playing a few weeks and haven't missed it at all, although I'd hate for it to never come back.
People have liked the picking every note ones, but I think the next one I'll do some hammer/pull off ones. You can get light speed with zero effort throwing a little of that shit in there.
I realized my biggest one was probably stretches. I wasn't Shawn Lane or anything, but I REALLY relied on it more than I should have. I've never been able to play legato, so bullshit workarounds have been my life.
