Always loved the wankel.

Next rotary from Mazda will be a hybrid using a two rotor to charge the batteries. Blech.

My buddies dad had one back in the early-mid 90’s. He took us out on the interstate I the middle of no where- doing well over a hundred, nice and smooth.. He had a route going from one cloverleaf exit to the next cloverleaf. He would barely slow down from speed and drift the whole way around the off and onto the on ramp, back up the highway and repeat while hauling ass.
He had a nice set of tracks burnt into the pavement..
That car had incredible ability to handle at speed, and he knew how to use it.

Absolutely. They get a bad rap because they're not fast off the line. If you know the car and how it operates and how you have to maintain high rpms they can be fucking demons.

Had the dreaded 04' RX-8. Dreaded because the engines had some issues and you had to be on top of maintenance. A lot of folks bought automatics which was a death sentence for that engine. It wouldn't go past 5 rpms out of 9 and it needed to to clear carbon. You also couldn't skimp on the gas grade or oil changes at all.

I did some modifications to mine like lowering it 1.5", replaced pulleys with adonized aluminum, new air intake, more rigid sway bars and endlinks, stage 1 clutch and other visual stuff like LED lights for tail lights and such. Got rid of the amber side markers and installed clear ones with white LEDs.

That car made me feel more safe than any other car. It responded immediately to any braking, steering, acceleration. At 120mph it just sounded like a well oiled drill. No shakes no worries.

I fucking hate it.

Only because the few people I know who bought these cars were fat autists with beards. Had to get into one of these little Mazda shit boxes to go to the hardware store. Dude had to drive through my quiet neighborhood like he was in a race. Fucking autist.

They still doing the 3 cylinder triangular rotary engine?

Those are fucking dead brains. Thinking they have something to show. Not subtle, not clean and tidy.

Have to disagree most Mazdas are well made. They get passed over a lot but they're generally solid cars.

Not really. It's more like a two stroke engine similar to a motorcycle. Using two rotors in 1.3 liter package. Bout the size of a suitcase. You can upgrade a 7 to a dual turbo 3 rotor engine that can put some serious power down on the rear wheels.

They'll never resurrect the proper rotary design. They could make a three rotor turbo engine sell for $150k and laugh to the bank but they don't. Rotaries in principal need oil injections while running to keep the apex seals solid. They also consume fuel like a mother fucker. The EPA hates them.

We had one dude in high school whose father bought him a little Mazda Miata. Saw him on the highway still driving that little thing. Happy for him.

Dated a girl who drove a Mazda 3. Those back seats were very cramped.

Still, if I ever dish out for a convertible, it’ll likely be an old beat up Wrangler or an Audi S4. Should I have such discretionary income.

Miatas are fun little cars. My ex had one. Like a fucking go cart on the highway. 6spd. Rock solid engine too. Definitely a "driver's" car.

3s are base level economy mode lol.

Old wranglers and 90s cherokees are legit.

Mazda RX-4 wagons had a 4-barral carb.
