It's a little early but I'm sort of busy. That doesn't matter. What matters is that it's Friday and close enough! It's time for the Friday Night Guitar Thread! Come join us and come share some music that you made! We don't even care if you suck.

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should upgoat go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself).

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

This is probably the oldest thing I'll find. Recorded sometime early 90s on my first 4 track that had 1 nonfunctioning channel. I did the swells at the end with the faders. Already trying to sound like The Guitar Trio this early on.

Low Budget Flamenco

An ICS song with my first fretless that was nearly impossible to play. The guy in the picture is one of the gayest homos I've encountered on Discord.

Yellow Jack

Listening to the first one now. I'm not sure how much time I'll have tonight but here we go.

Hmm... It makes me think you might enjoy this:

YES. And thank you for not plugging that in. If that's plugged in it's the best fucking pickup I've ever heard.

Oh, wait...

This is J by herself on the violin:

It's simply called #7 as it's her 7th full composition for violin. It's brilliant - and I really don't care for the violin. I tolerate it and admit that it's a requirement for some music, but it kind of grates on my ears even when played by an expert such as this.

I have some very clean pickups but that's just mics. I can't be sure but I think it's two mics, which is how I normally do it. I have one pointed toward the 12th fret and one pointed towards the sound hole. They're good mics so I don't have to be close to them or anything like that. They can be a half dozen feet away.

I've got a whole studio's worth of equipment and I've been pondering building a dedicated studio outbuilding, preferably one with a few booths and a control center. It'd have room for storage and a lounge, as well as its own bathroom (complete with a shower). One booth would be dedicated to vocals and one booth dedicated to percussion. The third would be for everything else and larger than the other two.

I've got the design in my head. When I get back home, I'll have to see an architect and a specialist that works with sound. That way I can make sure my ideas are viable and will net good results.

The only problem I have with this idea is that I know the type of people that studio would attract...

I'm not sure I want to deal with that. But, I'm thinking about spending more time 'retiring' than I've been spending. So, having a studio that I can spend a few hours in a week would be nice.

I currently have a studio in my house but it's cramped for space when you get more than a handful of people int there. There's also a lot of very expensive equipment around that can be bumped into and knocked off the walls.

your links are amazing, like professional concert players

My buddy Chris came home from turkey hunting this week, he got himself a Tom an hour before sundown on the last day of the turkey hunting season. So we got together a few times this week, and had some women over to watch us and listen to us play even! Now he is gone to Pennsylvania for a few weeks. Anyways woman always love it when we whip this one out

The Turtle

I'll play tht one next. They have a movie playing and I'm too lazy to go find ear buds or headphones. I have both here somewhere.

I hear some lady talking loudly while you're playing. Kick her out! LOL

What's he going to do in PA?

[ - ] mahavishnunj 0 points 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:35:50 ago (+0/-0)

I would be perfect for one of these. Did she say, "Busch light, I think that makes the most sense"?

Hello and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread! Like normal, we'll get you started!

I don't have anything new but I have something fun...

PF - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (B #2 & B; J K; TB #1 & P; guest on Sax)

Now that hasn't been shared in a while...

It's also a great song that I hope most folks recognize and enjoy.

I'm not sure how long (or how much) I'll be here tonight. I have a little guest for the weekend. She's far more important than the internet. I mean, I like you all well enough, or at least tolerate you, but she's downright important.

Rock on, goats! Rock on!

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:22:15 ago (+2/-0)

This is one of my religious songs, so I was ready to either not comment or shit all over it. But you totally did it justice. The sax at the end was badass.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:27:54 ago (+1/-0)

One of the bandmates played sax well enough.

The previously mentioned band had most of the major instruments covered. The one I refer to as J is actually now a music teacher. She hasn't yet picked a school to work for but is doing substitute work and has a bunch of private clients. She does everything from keys to violin.

The rest of the band was like that, to some extent. We all play(ed) multiple instruments.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:39:16 ago (+1/-0)

I've always felt like my shit NEEDS violin. But I've only had 2. One could play the hard parts but couldn't improvise, the other could improvise but couldn't play the hard parts. I'm still constantly on the lookout for one.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:51:25 ago (+1/-0)

Oh, she's pretty much mastered the violin and a ton of other stringed instruments.

Hell, she even plays a hammered dulcimer. She's quite skilled. She can play anything from classical violin to bluegrass or country music.

I was trying to catch the sound and create a moth's wings fluttering. Just some weird overdubbing...

That's quite nice and sounds vaguely familiar. You do love the percussive bits - which is fine by me. I enjoyed it even more when you added the 2nd track. Well done!

I've dropped a couple of songs into comments in this thread, which is unusual. Given what you've shared this week, you'd probably like the Diabilli piece.

I'm going to ping @sleazy so he doesn't miss your track.

Thanks!

I'm out for the night, but don't let me slow you down. Otherwise, we'll be here next week. You can pretty much bet on that. We've been at this for a long damned time.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:49:51 ago (+2/-0)

I can dig it. I like the percussive nature in parts of it.

[ - ] kammmmak 1 point 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:53:24 ago (+1/-0)

Here's another song just an idea.. It is called RUST.. https://qu.ax/UGRuc.m4a

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 21:12:10 ago (+1/-0)

I liked this even better. I'm going to jam to this right now.

[ - ] kammmmak 1 point 4 hoursMay 23, 2025 21:18:33 ago (+1/-0)*

Cool! Recorded using a sony pcm701 on s beta cassette which converts the visual part of beta tape into pulse code modulation sound.. You can even see your ones and zeroes on tv lol
It's about horses tried to get the gallop at the beginning lol

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 21:08:53 ago (+1/-0)

Very cool. The percussive triplet shit ruled. If anyone's gay like I was, double click and it will play.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 0 points 5 hoursMay 23, 2025 20:49:02 ago (+0/-0)

This keeps reaching halfway and won't let me play it at all. Is it working for everyone else?

Shit man, I'm an asshole and posted your song. I just made it unlisted.
