Best I can tell this is written in Czech language which dates back to the first millenia. I doubt it's that old clearly but would think between 1500-1600 could be accurate.

The hardback edition. Nice.

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:38:26 ago (+1/-0)

I have a distinct feeling this was a book someone traveled with.

[ - ] dassar 3 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 19:52:16 ago (+3/-0)

'I too have travelled with most of my books ..... usually to the bathroom and back.'

[ - ] BadBoyBubby 4 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:22:46 ago (+4/-0)

does it have redpills about the tribe?

[ - ] __47__ [op] 0 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:25:01 ago (+0/-0)

God that movie was fucked.

At any rate. I'd have to translate it all which I'm not equipped for but I am also curious.

Same as your username.

I remember the last time you posted a sample image asking if anyone knew the language. Looks like you made some headway with your research into it.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for the update.

Muh family has a Prussian hymn book from the 1700's.
Pretty cool mang.

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:37:25 ago (+1/-0)

I'm trying goat. I post almost once a day here. Got plenty others to share.

[ - ] Wahaha 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:02:55 ago (+1/-0)

Don't all books have their publishing date either on the first couple or last couple of pages?

[ - ] Sector2 2 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:30:44 ago (+2/-0)

The first federal copyright law in the US was enacted in 1790. Subsequent to that law, adding a copyright page to your book began to become popular. A 'data page' wasn't much of a thing before then.

[ - ] Wahaha 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 18:37:13 ago (+1/-0)

It's not related to copyright. Information about publishing date is there to identify different versions of a book. Germany only got enforceable copyright in 1871, but books published earlier still have this information.

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:20:38 ago (+1/-0)

Generally speaking yes. Either that information for this book has been torn out over the years or was never issued one. My thoughts are on the latter in this case.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:28:54 ago (+1/-0)

I would guess 1800's

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:31:50 ago (+1/-0)

Quite possible it's been rebound over time. I have some late 1800s books. Much better binding and craftsmanship. Not out of the question though.

[ - ] germ22 2 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:46:05 ago (+2/-0)

1600's is a fair assessment in my opinion. I have a few books from the 1600's and look very similar to this.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:42:52 ago (+2/-0)

either way its pretty damned cool

[ - ] __47__ [op] 3 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:45:14 ago (+3/-0)

Thanks goat. I can't believe my coworkers were gonna toss this. I used to be the safety net for this sort of thing. I also bought ridiculous shit but I wasn't wrong often.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:57:07 ago (+2/-0)

you're welcome

thanks for sharing it

[ - ] xmasskull 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:19:45 ago (+1/-0)

You're smart, you could learn to read this in 6-weeks, or less!!!?

[ - ] __47__ [op] 2 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:22:23 ago (+2/-0)

Lol no way. It is a Bible. Used an image translator for one of the pages. It was also headed for the trash at my old job.

[ - ] xmasskull 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:25:41 ago (+1/-0)

Really cool, any idea on a value?

For insurance purposes, only. wink.

[ - ] __47__ [op] 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:30:28 ago (+1/-0)

Absolutely no idea. I doubt much because it isn't signed by anyone of interest. I'd have to take to an antique dealer and even then I know the score with second hand all too well. Did it for over 20 years. Meaning I'll either get someone super honest or ill get Rick from pawnstars.

[ - ] xmasskull 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 16:59:03 ago (+1/-0)

Yea, I get it however, if YOU like this what else matters?

[ - ] __47__ [op] 0 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:22:42 ago (+0/-0)

Exactly.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 20:20:07 ago (+1/-0)

Best he can do is tree fiddy.

[ - ] rhy 1 point 3 weeksApr 6, 2025 04:34:11 ago (+1/-0)

Is this pre King James? That would be very interesting if it was

[ - ] __47__ [op] 0 points 3 weeksApr 6, 2025 05:11:20 ago (+0/-0)

I'll keep sending images to an online translating site. See what I can find.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:34:20 ago (+0/-0)

Wow, that looks almost as cool as this old book!

[ - ] __47__ [op] 0 points 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 17:39:15 ago (+0/-0)

Link not working for me. Sorry.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 3 weeksApr 5, 2025 18:15:14 ago (+1/-0)

No worries. I forgive you.
