Alright... I'm still sick as fuck but today actually is Friday! As such, it's time for the real Friday Night Guitar Thread. Come share some music you made or listen to the music of your peers. Trust me, we're mostly harmless!

submitted by TheRealBuddha to Guitar 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 20:06:08 ago (+29/-1)     (Guitar)

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should upgoat go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself).

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Evening Goats as is usual I missed Friday night, I choose to be tardy and post a song I wrote that I don't think I've posted before. It's a song about my good friend and a promise kept. https://soundcloud.com/carl-suiter/04-out-there-in-country?si=7afc517af8154116ad2d1b184a6c984c&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing. Buddha I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well, get well soon.

You might be late but you do not disappoint!

I'm surviving and the antibiotics appear to be working well. So, that's a good thing.

I think @sleazy didn't catch this one, so I'll ping him so that he can hear it too.

Your tracks are always appreciated. I was just a tad too young so Vietnam was not a problem for me. I saw the impact, however. Fortunately, we've started treating our vets better. I did my tours but they were nothing like full-scale war in Vietnam. Even still, I find it hard to talk about to people who didn't experience combat. It's just not something I'm comfortable doing, even though I experienced far less trauma than many others.

This a great song. Great to hear from you again Carl.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 5 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 20:24:36 ago (+5/-0)

A couple of more riffs I never did anything with:

Commercial Invoice

I really like this one:

Budget Inn

And an actual song, this has one of my better crazy sections:

perineum

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 20:38:08 ago (+2/-0)

I'm listening to the Commercial Invoice bit... Hmm... Yeah, it has potential. You going to keep working on it?

[ - ] mahavishnunj 3 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:37:06 ago (+3/-0)

I planned on doing one electric song on the record, this could be a good one. I didn't think I had much electric shit, but I have more than I thought. I'm dependent on my completely unreliable best friend to do the drums on it though. He says he's going to do it when I'm playing again, but I guarantee it will take months to nail him down.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 20:45:50 ago (+1/-0)

All that sounds fucking great. Chris says "i love the perenium!"

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:38:13 ago (+2/-0)

I always name these after something right in front of me or something I just read. No idea on that one though, lol.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:51:17 ago (+1/-0)

we were hoping maybe someone was licking yours at the time

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 22:02:42 ago (+2/-0)

10 years ago, I can't remember which psycho maniac that would be but that was a time when it was one nightmare after another. So anything's possible.

[ - ] Sleazy 0 points 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 02:37:49 ago (+0/-0)

LoL

I understand

[ - ] ChatGPT 1 point 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 23:52:29 ago (+1/-0)

perineum would sound good in a movie where the suspense builds then somebody commits a crime and a chase ensues.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 0 points 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 09:35:14 ago (+0/-0)

I would LOVE to score a film or animation. Your idea is great, I never think of cool imagery hearing my shit, I can only concentrate on all the fuckups.

[ - ] Sleazy 4 points 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 00:47:42 ago (+4/-0)

this here track is a sneak peek into Chris and I songwriting process

we were discussing his maple syrup adventures that he has just returned from and I got this thought in my head that what if tree's gave beer instead of syrup and we had to boil the water out like we do to make syrup

and I hollered out 'water in the beer tree duh duh duh duh' a couple times just fucking around, and anyways, you can hear..

i think its funny

but it works

Beer tree

That's not the song, that's just the kernel of an idea for a song, but I think it would be a good one. LoL

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 09:33:13 ago (+1/-0)

I'm not kidding- pay the $50 or whatever to ASCAP or BMI and get that copyrighted. That's a genius idea, and I couldn't find any songs like that. There are PLACES named that, but I didn't see any songs. If you make millions i expect 89% for this tip.

[ - ] Sleazy 0 points 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 12:38:17 ago (+0/-0)

wouldnt we have to finish it first?

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 13:37:21 ago (+1/-0)

I've never done it, but friends have. I'll ask how that shit works.

[ - ] Sleazy 0 points 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 13:42:14 ago (+0/-0)

I never have done that either

[ - ] lord_nougat 3 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:29:39 ago (+3/-0)

I command you to get well immediately.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:51:51 ago (+3/-0)

Fine. Whatever you say!

LOL I'm optimistic with the current round of antibiotics.

They're REALLY strong antibiotics, which means they're gonna kill some good bacteria. If my strain of pneumonia doesn't respond well to them, there are still more choices.

I've dealt with the infection since December, maybe late November. I was first treated in December and then I had a chronic cough - sometimes to the point of making it so that I was out of oxygen.

At its worst, my O2 meter said I was around 84% absorption rate. So, I'd sit up and breathe carefully for a while and wait for the coughing to abate.

I figured it'd just go away.

I'm smart in some areas but I'm really dumb in other areas. They said that I needed to get my chest imaged. The next month, they said the same thing. The third month, they listened to my lungs and said they didn't hear anything. I knew that was wrong so they prescribed 'cough perls' which just means working on the symptoms.

Indeed, one doctor suggested that I just treat the symptoms because I had a virus. (They were likely wrong.)

I finally got the x-rays done and it showed that I still had pneumonia. In fact, it wasn't even 'walking pneumonia'. So, my dumb ass should have just gotten the x-rays sooner.

But, I'll do my best to recover. That's what I do. I was once crippled and bed-ridden, potentially hindered for life. I put the effort in and made the best possible recovery that I could. It took a couple of years to be finally done with the physical therapy, but I did it.

So, I'm not just going to quit, but it's also time to realize that my immune system is less strong than it once was and that I'm aging. My time of death is approaching and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

I'm okay with that. I've had one hell of a life. I'm mostly worried about how it will make other people feel but I'm pretty content with the concept myself. I just don't want it to be a shitty death. I don't want to drown in my own phlegm. Well, at least not while I'm awake...

But, as you command good sir... I shall get well as of this moment in time!

[ - ] ChatGPT 3 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 23:57:49 ago (+3/-0)

I always heard pneumonia is serious as hell. Man alive it sounds horrible. I hope you can lick it.

I can tell you're worried about dying cos all those thoughts running through your head about your time remaining on earth. It's consuming all your thoughts. I'd be the same way.

Hang in there buddy.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsApr 6, 2025 19:58:34 ago (+1/-0)

I wouldn't say that I'm 'worried' about death, just sort of preparing my head a bit for the inevitable.

It's gonna happen. I might as well get to grips with it 'cause there's fuck all I can do about it.

As for pneumonia, it sucks. In the worst parts of it, you're breathing as much as you can but it still feels like you're starving for oxygen.

That said, I've only been on these antibiotics for a short time and things are looking remarkably better.

I'm probably gonna survive this. With my luck, I'll live until I'm 110.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:57:23 ago (+2/-0)

im not ok with it

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 22:15:29 ago (+2/-0)

I wouldn't be too worried. While it may sound like it from afar, you should know that I'm not one who gives up easily. I accept that I'm going to die but I'm always going to do my best to not do so - within reason.

This is definitely in the within-reason category.

If you go back, you'll remember how much work I put into making the best recovery possible after the wreck. For a while, we weren't even sure if I'd live. Then, we weren't even sure if I'd walk again. Eventually, we weren't even sure if I'd be able to function properly.

Yet, I worked my ass off. I did PT for more than 2 years just to ensure that I had the greatest recovery possible.

So, I don't give up easily.

I'm just a realist. At some point, no matter how hard I fight, I'm going to lose that battle. I'd rather do so on my own terms.

But, for this? Oh, this is something I'm going to fight. I'm not just going to fight it, I'm going to ensure I have the best possible health care during that fight. (And that's why I'm on a very strong pair of antibiotics.)

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 22:49:35 ago (+2/-0)

then fight

dont listen to the doctors just take honey, whiskey and lemon, thats all you need, that will cure your scurvy

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 22:56:00 ago (+1/-0)

Oh, you can bet that I'll fight. That's a given. It doesn't mean that I'll win, but it means that I'll try.

Oddly, this is one of those very rare instances where vitamins might help. It might be worth taking Vitamin E in this case. There's no benefit for healthy people but I am not currently healthy.

I'll have to ask my daughter. She'll know. If not, she'll research and let me know.

I figured I was fighting the entire time. In fact, I was. I was just a moron who should have been on a second round of antibiotics sooner.

It'll likely take more than this to kill me, though it's a wee bit scary when you're coughing so much that you literally can not breathe in fast enough to get your required oxygen. I don't wish that on anyone. It is less scary than it was.

Suffice to say, odds are VERY good that I'm fine from here on out.

The odds of me being okay for now are pretty damned good. I'm on very strong meds that are capable of dealing with some of the worst infections out there.

In fact, these meds are so good that they're going to kill good bacteria. It's a risk worth taking but it will kill off good bacteria.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 02:38:18 ago (+1/-0)

Fuck yeah!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsApr 6, 2025 20:00:04 ago (+1/-0)

I'm not feeling as unwell and might even be classified as feeling a bit better.

I've not had any coughing fits today. My blood O2 meter is still saying 95 and 96, but that's a liveable amount of oxygen and doesn't make me feel like I'm suffocating. So, there's that.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 monthsApr 6, 2025 23:42:40 ago (+1/-0)

That is great news! Fuck yeah!!

95 and 96 you can live with. Verle the day he died when I least seen him had 70% oxygen in his blood, while he was on an oxygen mask, so hearing that you have 96% makes my day! Seriously! Fuck yeah!!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsApr 7, 2025 19:51:35 ago (+1/-0)

I checked earlier today and I was up to 97% and sometimes hit 98% over the five minutes or so that I wore the monitor. My resting heart rate was down around 105 bpm, which is pretty good for me. Seeing 97% on the O2 meter was surprising. I assume that means my lungs are clearing up, though I still have that weird pressure in my inner ear.

70% would be terrifying. You're breathing but you feel like you're suffocating. That's what it feels like at even 85% blood 02. 95% is on the low end of healthy, so not too bad. But, it drops off quickly after that. 75% is really bad and 70% means you're likely going to die in short order.

But, at 85% I was sitting up or even standing to get my air into me and feeling like I was a fish out of water. Waking up like that is a bit alarming and will make you ponder your mortality. It feels like you're suffocating even though you're breathing.

Suffocation is not a way that I want to go - at least not so long as I'm awake for it. I'd absolutely hate drowning, even though it'll be over fairly quickly. The human brain wants O2 and goes a bit crazy when it doesn't have it. It's a quick way to die (drowning) but those last couple of minutes sound terrible to me.

Though, people who have drowned and been brought back to life say that it was pretty peaceful when they came to grips with the fact that they were going to drown. So, maybe I'd just suck in a bunch of water to make it take less time.

(I do not think I'll drown. I swim quite well and avoid stupid boating activities.)

[ - ] Crackinjokes 2 points 2 monthsApr 5, 2025 08:28:48 ago (+2/-0)

Get some of those cold easy lozenges which have ionic zinc in them they really do slow the rate of viral reproduction so you've got some virus going on it will definitely slow that down. I think of it basically is the zinc poisoning your mouth and part of your throat where the shit grows.

Make sure you breathe a lot of steam that gets down into your lungs. Don't burn your lungs but remember bacteria are killed by higher temperatures and the moisture helps break up stuff that has sort of solidified and created its own protective layer in your lungs so if you've really got something you've got to change the environment and the literal atmosphere that it's growing in. And heating up the air in your lungs by breathing steam with your head over a steaming water bowl or something like that is very effective. If I ever got a serious something in my lungs that was not going away that's what I do

I don't know if there's something you could put in the water when you breathe the steam I think menthol might help I don't know basically you want to try to deliver anything that might make it more difficult for the bacteria or the virus to cling to the walls of your lungs.

I've often wondered if like spraying some grain alcohol or something while you breathe in so you get the grain alcohol against the lining of the lungs would help you or whether that would hurt you I don't know whether that would hurt the lines of your lungs. When I've got a persistent colder flu that won't go away one trick I've done is put alcohol on my finger and stick it in my nose and around the base of my nostrils and I swear to God it really does kill off that lingering virus or bacteria that's hanging around the engines to your nose that I think keeps you getting reinfected over and over again.

Of course get outside in the sunshine and lie down if you're going to be sick be sick outside the sunshine take off all your clothes get vitamin d get that sunlight sterilized air in your lungs. We are not meant to be indoors all the time. Open all your windows and your house make sure you've got fresh air that's been cleaned for a while shower twice a day if you can again I think it's breathing the steam in the shower that is most helpful but something definitely helps about taking a hot shower.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 1 point 2 monthsApr 6, 2025 20:05:04 ago (+1/-0)

In this case, it's bacteria. Pneumonia is bacterial and not viral. The meds appear to be working.

I do the steam thing for a stuffy nose and clogged sinuses. It works great for temporary relief. In this case, I can get some temporary relief with various OTC meds but none of those actually resolve the issue - which is bacteria.

In this case, it's Streptococcus pneumoniae. It's one of the 'strep' bacteria, like you see in 'strep throat' and the like. It seems to me, and it's a bit early to tell, that the bacteria are losing the fight. I can literally feel my lungs being clearer.

It's a weird feeling. After being O2 depleted, it's like I'm sucking in pure oxygen.

Oh what a beautiful world

So far

Ask me again in a few days and we'll see how modern medicine works - although I've seriously put modern medicine at a deficit here. I mean, they wanted me to get chest images done back in January and I declined to do so - against their very strong advice.

I was like, "Nah, I'll be fine, Thanks!"

But, the sad truth is that I need to start accepting that I'm older. I'm listening to Girl Scout Cookies and lamenting my aging immune system. Because I'm a bit anal, I didn't start my meds until today - that way they start and end on the same day.

If I am not 'well' by the end of the week, I'm told that I should call and let them know.

A part of me says, 'Fuck it.' I mean, if I can't handle a bout of pneumonia maybe it's time to make room on the planet for more people.

At the same time, I don't really relish the idea of drowning with fluid filling my lungs. That just sounds horrible. So, I'm quite likely to take my meds and ensure that they do their job.

They have me on strong antibiotics - Amoxicillin and Doxycycline. If that combination doesn't kill it, it's gonna get interesting. No, I will not be allowing them to do anything more invasive. If it's that bad, just stuff me full of opiates and let me nod off quietly in my sleep.

I was sure to ensure the local hospital system has my DNR on file.

It'll suck for a while for those I leave behind but death doesn't scare me and I don't want to live with a shitty quality of life. Fuck that. I'm okay with being old. I'm not okay with being infirm. If I can't fight off a simple pneumonia infection, I'm just a drag on humanity.

Meh... With my luck, I'll live another 30 goddamned years.

Yeah, I'm not dead yet. Thanks!

I'm actually unfamiliar with that song though the name 'Cake' reminds me of some 90s band. I'm entirely unfamiliar with them while, at the same time, pretty sure they should be vaguely familiar. It's like I've covered something from them but attached no meaning to it and did so purely for performance reasons.

I should be less lazy and look them up on Wikipedia or something.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 3 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:40:43 ago (+3/-0)

I did 2 rounds of antibiotics and the pneumonia is STILL hanging on. I think this is week 6. I looked up natural remedies and they're all gross as fuck.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 22:11:27 ago (+2/-0)

I just started my second round today. The two they have me on are quite strong and what they refer to as 'broad spectrum'. The first two were more narrowly focused on infections of the lung.

I have a slight advantage here, even though I need to listen to them more often. My daughter is a pediatrician. She's not just a pediatrician, she works at a teaching hospital - meaning she's training other pediatricians.

She too suggested that I follow their advice and get some x-rays. I told her that I was going to be fine.

I was wrong.

The coughing did change. I was fine throughout the day, more or less. I mean, I'd have a coughing fit now and then but I'd wake up at night out of breath and coughing up a storm - coughing to the point where it was hard to breathe.

I bought one of those things that goes on your finger to tell you how fast your heart is beating and the concentration of O2 in your blood. I saw it as low as 84% and just dealt with it by sitting up and taking concentrated breaths. That would work to get me back into the low 90s and able to go back to sleep.

So, we'll see where this goes.

I'm optimistic.

what the fuck is going on around here?

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 22:28:08 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah, the regular flu started about 6 weeks ago, and it was the worst I've ever had. It turned into pneumonia which always happens, and it has been unshakeable. I can function, but I still get attacked with the cough. Smoking on top of it really helps, I read that on the internet.

I say, why do you think you're dying?

what the fuck?

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 20:55:19 ago (+2/-0)

Of course I'm dying. LOL I'm well into the 2nd half of life where you have less time than you have been alive. There's no way I'll live as many years as I've already lived, so I'm definitely in the dying stage.

It's just a matter of how and how soon.

Given the way I've lived my life, statistics would suggest sooner rather than later.

But, I have a remarkable ability to keep on living. Given how 'hard' I've lived, it's amazing that I'm still alive. If there's a bad habit, I've at least dabbled in it.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 2 monthsApr 4, 2025 21:28:44 ago (+1/-0)

These have yet again been a somehow appropriate soundtrack to my environment. These pieces of shit left me alone at the shop with one of the heaviest doors still open. I have no idea how I'm going to get that motherfucker down with my hands like this. So half the cats from the trailer park are in here and they're fighting. I don't know how to record these tunes with the cats fighting simultaneously.

I also liked the Girl Scout song. I laughed a little the way you say more and door. Like a nigger says it. I do that too. It's kinda fun to say more like niggers say.

Check out Junk Food Junkie. It was a hit song back in the day. Funny song.

Pneomonia that never went away and has rebounded. I did a round of antibiotics in December and then slacked off and just figured the rest would take care of itself. The doctors suggested getting lung x-rays but I didn't do so 'cause I figured I'd just get better.

Well, now I'm dealing with that - except my pneomonia is now going to have defenses against the antibiotics I already took. So, I'll be more diligent this time around.

Thanks!

How are you holding up?

ah you never quit the course of antibiotics that the doctors gives you. you have to finish it all even if you feel great. i'm so sorry that this is happening to you. but there's good news are a new class of antibiotics that can fight the resistant bacteria. take good care of yourself and if you have fever or feel disoriented then rush to the ER okay.

as for me i'm mostly okay thank God. i have my issues but nothing can compare with what your going thru right now. another thing, be positive. negativity will weaken your system.

so, yeah take those x-rays asap. did you have a cold? if not something else might be causing it. one of my nephews had aspiration pneumonia and he had to had surgery because of it and now he is fine. you just have to go the doc and follow their instructions okay.

again, i wish you the best. and i'm hopeful that you will get through this, God willing.

just this time around follow the protocol entirely!

i even asked ai for help for your sake:

Follow Medical Advice: Lung X-rays or imaging can help identify the underlying cause of persistent pneumonia or whether there are complications.

Complete Antibiotic Treatment: If antibiotics are prescribed again, it’s crucial to follow through with the entire course to prevent further resistance or relapse.

Seek Immediate Medical Attention: If they experience worsening symptoms like difficulty breathing, chest pain, fever, or fatigue, visiting a healthcare provider promptly is essential.

Lifestyle Adjustments: Support recovery by staying hydrated, resting, and avoiding smoking or other lung irritants.

best wishes man

LOL How could he not know the words?!?

It was insanely popular in its day. The words even kind of make sense, which is pretty good for this band in particular.

Still, listening now and having a good time.

Even still, he should know the song. It's a good song!

Tell him I want him to learn the lyrics and try again in a month! LOL

Also, tell him that I said hello and that I'm sorry for his loss (regarding Verle).

Chris says thanks but it was only Verle, he's half way there..

"takes a lot of strength to pull that much weight up"

I think he is still in shock
