Historic England! How inspirational and magical. Oh I mean England doesnât have history and this library was probably built by the zulu. And anyone can he English. Because England is not even a country with history. Rushy sunak is an English rose, wonât you know
Doesn't matter. The beauty is in the building itself. You can't archive wood and stone. Copies of the books are very likely also in the British Library, which I believe has been digitized almost in its entirety.

Serious question - are these old books still able to be read by the public?.
Where i live - all the early editions etc are stored in a separate secure/ climate-controlled room - you need to produce ID to go in and cant leave the room with the book and all the super rare books etc are basically off limits to the general public unless you're some 'academic' or similar.
That is a good question. I had a college professor who was a serious Anglophile. He described in a class in 1980 his experience decades before reading the original Domesday Book (the Great Survey ordered by William the Conqueror). It was open to the public, but you had to ask for it exactly by its reference number, which was the shelf location. You would be brought to a room with one chair and given a pair of gloves to wear. When you were finished, the librarian would bring it back to the shelf. This was when the English treated their history with reverence and their artifacts as the legacy that they were. It never would have occurred to anyone that someone would intentionally damage or steal the manuscript.
