This is weird. The elite have bunkers since the atomic bomb was invented. There are also a lot of middle class boomers who own bunkers. I don't know why the media suddenly started reporting about these bunkers now. It was never a secret.

Life in a bunker won't be as easy or as enjoyable as they're imagining. The technical aspect of creating survivability isn't that hard, depending on your funds. The hard part will be the human factor.

The lack of sunlight might be one of the greatest problems they would face. You can simulate sunlight to a certain point, but it's not exactly the same.

Historically, people that live underground for long periods of time tend to go COMPLETELY FUCKING INSANE, even if they have other people with them and things to remain somewhat entertained. Imagine living in a bunker for 20 years... the people that crawl out of it will be deranged madmen, possibly cannibals by that point.

Even nukes would let you out within a month or so, assuming you didn't locate in or downwind of a target zone. If they couldn't come out because of crazed hordes around the bunker, that would be a location failure.

I doubt many of the bunker people are able to create a culture among their hirelings that will make them the most obvious owner/operator of the bunker society. With luck, their navy seals will see some use for them and tolerate their continued presence. Depends on what and how severe the crisis is though.

The ridiculous part is these billionaires thinking they can just hide in underground warehouses full of vital supplies and equipment. Hundreds of construction workers that built the bunker know where they are. They have told thousands of friends and family about them, those people have told tens of thousands.
It's not exactly a well kept secret. All the locals know where they are and what they've got. My cabin in the woods is more secretive and less likely to be raided by a desperate mob

The rich haven't really thought this thing through. Along with their families, the world's 2800 billionaires might total 5000 people. Were the planet truly decimated and they all came out after even two years, their problems are only beginning. First, they are spread out across the globe, so they are totally isolated. Inbreeding becomes the rule. Secondly, these uber-wealthy few have no skill sets, and building homes, digging ditches, planting crops and paving roads is beyond their abilities; they'll be living in shacks. Thirdly, they will run out of food and water once their stored supplies run out. Being very isolated from other bunker survivors, they will lack the goods and services necessary to long term survival.

In a great disaster we might go quick. The bunker billionaire families will go slowly, painfully and will die no better than beasts.
