Hello again everyone. We all survived another week, so lets celebrate! The best celebrations always include music. Damnit, it's time for the Friday Night Guitar Thread. Time to dust off your guitar and make her sing for us. Everyone is welcome. Any instrument, any skill level. Let's have some fun!

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link.. If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Here is a song I wrote about Verle, this is part of his story

Big V

I'm late and still not technically here. I'm just getting in.

So, have some music:

GnR - November Rain (studio session)

That's a song everyone should know and love. Well, at least know...

I didn't come back... LOL I got distracted by the missus and then was too lazy to get back online.

You can find a ton of my stuff there...

That's the URL you need to know to find everything I've uploaded on that site. It's fairly easy to navigate and I try to put things in directories that make sense.

There are some that got uploaded before I did the folders thing, so they're not moved because there are links to them and I don't want to screw up those links.

I just seen my friend Verle at the hospital. He was asleep and I couldn't wake him up. The nurse came in and talked to me saying they're just going to keep him comfortable, and hes do not resuscitate, they're giving him morphine.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 22:12:17 ago (+2/-0)

Hey man, I got some bad news, Verle died at 8:50 ... 21 minutes ago

i love you man

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsMar 11, 2025 16:43:21 ago (+1/-0)

That's shitty though not unexpected. I hope you're holding up okay, 'cause it sucks to lose a friend - even if death was a realistic outcome. I'd pondered this, thinking it might be the case as he wasn't even able to walk to the bathroom. I didn't say anything because I didn't figure it was a topic worth discussing. After all, it'd either happen or it wouldn't.

I too am a DNR. Just keep me comfortable and let me go. If I'm so bad that it requires things like CPR, just let me go. If it's long-term, keep me sedated and stuffed full of opiates.

If you want some distraction, Doug actually covered an M5 today.

I haven't watched it yet.

I didnt expect it to be then, I was planning on visiting him Monday.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsMar 11, 2025 19:17:36 ago (+1/-0)

It sucks. It sucks to lose friends and family.

I sometimes wish I believed in an afterlife, as that would make it easier.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsMar 11, 2025 19:33:53 ago (+1/-0)

Verle believed in an afterlife. So I hope he found everything he thought it would be and more when he got there!

But you're right, it sucks

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsMar 11, 2025 21:33:09 ago (+1/-0)

As he had a DNR, it'd seem that he was at peace with dying.

I'm sure his friends and family are all grieving. Hopefully they find peace.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsMar 11, 2025 21:57:39 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah. A lot of people are going to miss him.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsMar 12, 2025 09:14:19 ago (+1/-0)

They probably won't do an autopsy or anything like that. His death certificate is likely to just have a main cause of 'cardiac arrest'. They may fill in a secondary cause, which I am not going to speculate about.

Funerals are expensive. Cremation is much less expensive. Small urns aren't very expensive and there are a lot more ashes than people think. (The family won't even get all the ashes, there are a whole lot of them.) But, small urns are an idea. You can give said urns to family and friends.

This is one of the things your recordings can do. You have a bunch of recordings that contain Verle's voice. Properly backed up, those will last a lifetime. If you're tight with the family, you could always share some of those recordings with them.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsMar 12, 2025 10:34:21 ago (+1/-0)

There is not going to be any autopsy. And since Verle was in the hospital since late january, he has two of his government check deposits in his bank and that money should cover the cost of cremation. Chris dad said that he is going to rent out a banquet room at a hotel soon to have a memorial for Verle. So all that seems to be taken care of as of now. It's Verle's sons birthday today, I don't know if you remember, his son was found in the river last may, so now they are together again for his birthday.

I like that version better. I dig Slash, but can't listen to that band due to Axl's voice.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 3 monthsMar 8, 2025 17:40:56 ago (+0/-0)

LOL I actually like Axl's voice. The dude has amazing range and a unique sound. I'm a pretty big GnR fan.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 3 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 20:29:24 ago (+3/-0)

I'll start with another old ICS song. Y'all tell me if I repost shit, I have 100s of these and my memory is nonexistent.

yeti sauce

I haven't been here long enough to know if videos are legal, but this was right next to that last one. I noticed it's been private for years, which makes no sense. Then I remembered-these fucking faggots gave me a copyright strike for public domain library music. Enjoy this high def footage from 12 years ago:

library music jam

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 20:33:12 ago (+2/-0)

Videos are fine. We're not picky. We just want to hear the talents of our peers here. I appreciate you sharing, but what's up with the jew in a dress by the map? The sounds on that one reminds me of some Zappa!

On the second one what is that you are playing along with, the guy on the organ is tremendous!

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 21:11:48 ago (+2/-0)

Streetshitter, not jew.

It's public domain library music from Britain. Like stock music you could buy cheap and do whatever you wanted with. I got a copyright strike for music that has no fucking copyright. My neighbor used to give me CDs of that shit, it's great for practicing with.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 21:20:43 ago (+2/-0)

Cool.

Sounds like something fun to jam along with!

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 23:07:10 ago (+2/-0)

Sounds like a million other tracks played on 70's pornos and Benny Hill. So the copyright strike was just covering their ass. They couldn't name where that came from.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 0 points 3 monthsMar 8, 2025 05:56:59 ago (+0/-0)

It's beyond dumb, and you can't communicate with a human about it, you have to appeal to a computer. I've had 3- that one, a video of me jamming to a Miles Davis song(how is it not transformative with me playing loud guitar all over it?), and the craziest one: me showing how to play a Neil Finn song. I emailed him and someone actually responded and said it sucks but they have nothing to do with it. All youtube faggotry.

I know a lot of folks like to go out for a drink on a Friday night, so here's one from my friends and I to you!

Friends in Low PLaces

Here is a fun little ditty that my buddy Verle sang.

I pick things up and put them down

[ - ] mahavishnunj 3 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 20:22:18 ago (+3/-0)

This is my favorite one of yours yet.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 20:26:21 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks! This one always bring me a smile.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 20:30:37 ago (+2/-0)

His voice gives me a Beefheart/Col Bruce Hampton vibe. So does the weird music.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 20:33:46 ago (+2/-0)

I'm going to take that as a compliment!

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 3 monthsMar 8, 2025 08:21:25 ago (+1/-0)

I was going to post something from the first record but ran across this incredibly rare footage. Skip to 13 minutes in:

https://youtu.be/0998UCx-mCg

Col. Bruce was the Captain Beefheart of the south. The blurb in the back of Guitar World that made me buy that record back then said this band sounds like Steve Morse with Jaco on bass. Pretty accurate, but also one of the best mandolin players of all time and God tier drummer.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 23:19:31 ago (+2/-0)

Man alive that is almost the riff used on Fight the Power by the Isley brothers. Cool riff.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 7, 2025 23:28:35 ago (+2/-0)

I am not familiar with that one, but thanks. I love when others enjoy my imaginations, even if they came from something i heard long ago and forgot. Thats where they all came from. I love learning where I might have heard something before, I appreciate it, thanks!
