It looks like there is some rebar there. The wood is centering it in the hole. Maybe lead is just faster than cement. Or maybe the cement expansion would crack his stone? It almost looks like he put fault lines in it. I'm sure he has a reason but maybe the trade off makes it so it would crack along them. IDK, he knows what he's doing and we can only guess at shit.
They were pouring molten metal down into the stone to hold it together with the course below it. The clay was a funnel, and the rebar was used to keep a gap for the liquid Metal. They didn’t use mortar, they used metal to keep the stone together in some parts. They don’t do anything to crack the stone at that point.

better to restore them than to sell them to private individuals so that they can turn them into a billiard palace and the like, as is done here with churches
If they keep allowing niggers of various types to flood their country they'll tear that place down brick by brick in a couple generations. I bet this white stone mason only has 2 kids from 2 seperate divorces.

Using water to slowly expand wooden wedges, never seen this before. Next level for sure.

Had a friend that was going to school for this skill. Obviously it is still taught and it is well paid.
