That's why the russians have upgraded to fiber optic spools that can go up to 15 kilometers or so. They do still use radio controls for some, as you can see the static on the videos as they approach. (vehicles have anti-drone radio interference systems)

In some places, the Russians are installing netting over supply roads to catch Ukrainian drones. See a small image of that at the timestamp below:

Trees are a problem for fiber though. That limits use to open terrain or dropping explosives from above. Suicide drones would get tangled and snap the fiber.
