That was a gator, much better temperament compared to crocs. I'm usually pretty comfortable around gators, but big ones like the one in the video inspire a primal fear. That growl, it's almost like you process the sound in the chest instead of the ears. At least they're kind enough to let you know you're too fucking close.
To be completely honest with you I know fuck all about the differences between them, I've only been around the Caiman and American crocs, fucking hair trigger mean,I've heard plenty of belly growls, the wildest time in my life was spent with crocs, and the odd yellow boa.
These monsters still live right along side us... all from the time of dinos, if not dinos themselfs..
For fun:
Pretty sure a few of these fuckers lived along side humans up till about the 40-50's... They were tromping around in massive numbers on the planet from 12 million to 11,00 years ago B Gigantopithecus https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPYks_GasAAGQUC.jpg
Pretty sure mariners since the 11 century had to fight these damb things that were much larger on occasion, we know the bigs ones still today, eat sperm whales ...they have been around 500 million years or so.. https://assets.iflscience.com/assets/articleNo/71011/aImg/71182/giant-squid-aquarium-l.webp
I'd probably shit myself if I ever ran into one. Closest I ever came in the presence of a reptile was a big black snake I almost stepped on in my early 20s. I completely froze. There must be something in our DNA that terrifies us about these slithery things.
Yes, we lived alongside dragons, and possibly other dinosaurs as well. That is why we are terrified of them. Jews worship one called YahWeh. There is no logical explanation for how different cultures all over the world all invented the same magical creature, other than that they were real.

And there is actually tonnes of evidence that these type of fuckers lived in the "lake monster zone" all around the northern world, till at least the early 1900's They were around for 60 million years. ... https://reactormag.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/champlain-monster-740x493.jpg
